Luxury Self-catering in The Lake District

One of the many things we love about visiting the Lake District, is the enormous choice of accommodation on offer. There’s everything from a hostel to a luxury hotel and spa and everything in between.

On our recent visit to this beautiful area that we love so much, we stayed in a great selection and one of them was the luxury self-catering period property that is The Pheasant Lodge, located very close to Cartmel.

The Pheasant Lodge sleeps six and offers spectacular views over beautiful gardens and the Cartmel Valley. The ideal base for those who enjoy walking, mountain biking or simply relaxing in a secluded situation.

The Pheasant Lodge

There is private parking for three cars at the front of the property on a private driveway and three private garden areas for use in your stay.

We go to the Lake District to climb the Wainwrights, be at one with nature and recharge our batteries, it’s a place that feeds the soul and this secluded property provided us with the perfect home from home.

Refurbished to a superior standard. The accommodation offers comfort and luxury as well as beautifully restored features including high ceilings, large windows, fireplaces and parquet floors. You walk through the door and it immediately feels like home.

The Pheasant Lodge

There are two large bedrooms and one bathroom. There is also a good sized lounge with sofa bed, plus separate dining room. All the windows in the house look out to the lush gardens that surround the property. Let me tell you, although there were only two of us on this trip, we used every room during our stay, we fell in love with this house.

Food plays a big part in any of our trips, but especially in the Lake District. When you’re tackling the Wainwrights, you need a good breakfast to keep your energy levels up and a hearty dinner to satisfy the appetite you generate! It was a pleasure to cook in the well-equipped, spacious kitchen and with such fabulous local produce on offer at the nearby independent shops, we ate really well.

Cartmel is a short walk away from The Pheasant Lodge and well worth a visit, it’s packed with artisan food and drink places, great pubs and historical sites.

Cartmel

One place you absolutely must visit is Cartmel Cheeses. The cheese monsters that we are, we were in there for ages choosing our selection, pairing with delicious olives, bread, crackers and cured meats – all available from this superb artisan shop. We picked up a bottle of Malbec from the local wine shop and we were good to go.

But if you fancy dining out – and in style, Cartmel is also home to Michelin-starred restaurants L’Enclume and Rogan & Co, both owned by acclaimed chef Simon Rogan. This beautiful village offers everything and so does The Pheasant Lodge.

We took our goodies back to ‘our home’, where we feasted like kings while watching the large 60-inch TV which has Sky, with over 400 channels and Netflix. The air here is pure, the food is outstanding and the beds at Pheasant Lodge are so comfortable they keep you tucked up longer than normal.

Wainwrights

We spent two fantastic nights at Pheasant Lodge and would happily have stayed a week, this house is luxury self-catering with a real feel of home. But it was time to move on to our next stop in this Lakeland adventure.

For your next trip to the Lake District, make sure your holiday starts right here!
