Luxury Hotels in Lake District – A visit to The Lakes is fantastic at any time of year, but it is a spectacular experience when you have stunning weather and a fantastic hotel to stay in. On our recent visit, we were blessed with both – let me introduce you to Rothay Garden Hotel Grasmere.

An intimate and stylish hotel and proudly independent, the Rothay welcome is second to none. We visited in late August and it was our first experience of staying anywhere since March this year, we were unsure as to what to expect and this was to be our baptism into hotel stays in a pandemic.
We needn’t have worried, instructions were clear from the start that masks should be worn in all public areas, (except for the bar and restaurant, once seated), sanitiser stations were everywhere; in fact all precautions had been taken care of to keep both guests and staff safe.
It did seem strange at first but it’s amazing how quickly you adapt and get used to this new way of living, the only thing I struggle with is not being able to see people’s expressions when you speak with them, but again this is something to get used to.
There’s no denying the hotel is beautiful, but the jewel in this establishments crown is the team. Nothing is too much trouble; everything is about the guest experience from the minute you arrive to the second you check out. Rothay Garden is the perfect bolt hole from the hustle and bustle of daily life, a sanctuary from where you can explore The Lakes at your own pace.
The luxury bedrooms and suites here have won numerous awards and are some of the finest in the Lake District. Our own room was stunning with great facilities and those little touches which make all the difference between an ordinary break and an experience to remember. Some rooms and suites also have a balcony or a private patio from where you can enjoy the magnificent panoramic views.
Of course if like us great food is also high on your agenda, you will love the hotel’s Garden Restaurant, one of only a few Lake District restaurants with 2 AA rosettes and we can confirm that dining here is superb. Far removed from a traditional hotel restaurant, The Garden Restaurant is an attraction in its own right, with great views overlooking the hotel’s two acres of gardens and, with their Daily Menu, (which of course changes daily and makes the most of the best fresh market produce available day by day), you will not be tempted to eat elsewhere.
After a day hiking the fells or tackling the Grasmere to Ambleside Walk, the Riverside Spa is a superb place to wind down and ease those aching muscles – yes, they also have a spa!
But don’t just take our word for how special this place is, Rothay Garden Hotel has been recognised as Cumbria’s Small Hotel of the Year in the Cumbria Tourism 2018/19 Awards, we have a feeling there will be many more awards coming their way.
