Brighter days approach and as the Jurassic Coast celebrates 20 years of UNESCO World Heritage status, We Are Weymouth showcases all this dramatic coastline has to offer. The perfect UK staycation awaits, with Weymouth as the base, visit 185 million years of history, enjoy the sunshine, and get outside exploring.
Weymouth sits on the Southwest Coast Path, with local walks offering routes for varying levels of experience. A beautiful way to explore the Jurassic Coast, these walks provide sensational views of the coastline and out to sea. The Jurassic Coast is famous for its unique rock formations, caused by millennia of erosion as the sea meets the land. This is the only natural UNESCO World Heritage Site in the UK and is a great way to enjoy the great outdoors here in the UK.

For those looking for something more adventurous as they explore the Coast, Weymouth offers a plethora of water activities that showcase the land beautifully. From paddleboarding to swimming in secluded coves, cold water swimming, jet skis, or coasteering, Weymouth & Portland is world renowned for water sport activities.
Dawn Rondeau, Chief Operations Officer at We Are Weymouth comments: “This spring we’re celebrating 20 years of the Jurassic Coast gaining its UNESCO World Heritage status. Our coastline is incredibly beautiful as well as unique in terms of its 185-million-year history. Here in Weymouth, we’re very lucky to have all of this on our doorstep – walking, climbing, coasteering, water sports, iconic landmarks and so much more! We’re encouraging visitors and locals alike to get out and explore this incredible part of the world, and after a busy day return back to the town to enjoy live music, an array of delicious local food, or just a sunset walk on the beach.”

The Jurassic Coast is England’s only natural World Heritage site and begins in Exmouth, East Devon heading west for 95 miles to Old Harry’s Rocks near Swanage, Dorset. Weymouth, situated in the middle of this coastline is the perfect jumping off point for those looking to explore all the Jurassic Coast has to offer.

For family fun, not only is Weymouth Beach consistently featured in Best UK Beach Guides, but it was also included this year in Trip Advisor’s Top 25 Beaches in Europe. With soft white sand, calm waters and activities from donkey rides to volleyball – Weymouth Bay is the perfect beach day out. As well as this, families can head out on Weymouth’s dinosaur trail (in place until end of May 2022), visit local attractions such as the Nothe Fort or the SEA LIFE Weymouth Adventure Park & Aquarium. For families off to explore the Jurassic Coast there is fossil hunting galore, coves and rock formations, there’s even a fossil forest just east of Lulworth Cove! After a busy day admiring the coast or digging for fossils it’s time to return to Weymouth to enjoy the harbour at dusk, sit outside and enjoy a glass of wine, head to one of the award-winning restaurants, or stay later to experience fantastic live music.
