The River Derwent, meandering through the Chatsworth Estate in the Peak District, is a well-known haunt for fly fishing, and is usually a pleasure only reserved for members of the local fishing club.
New for this season though, experienced fly fishers staying at one of The Devonshire Hotels & Restaurants Group’s properties, owned by The Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, can enjoy exclusive access for a day’s fly fishing on the Derwent in this magnificent and picturesque setting, with Chatsworth House itself in the background.
The exclusive fly fishing experience is available to guests staying for a minimum of two nights at The Cavendish at Baslow, a four-star coaching inn, located on the Chatsworth Estate itself; or at one of the Group’s two delightful eighteenth century Estate inns, The Devonshire Arms at Beeley, or The Devonshire Arms at Pilsley; or in one of their stylish boltholes – a collection of self-catering holiday cottages, positioned on and around the Chatsworth Estate, which includes some historically important and quirky properties, such as the Hunting Tower overlooking the parkland.
The day pass for the fishing of trout or grayling on this 4 mile double-banked stretch of river which runs from Baslow to Rowsley, would normally only be available exclusively to members of The Chatsworth Fishery, a private Club with few members and a wait list several years long. Availability is limited daily and is priced at £200 per person, or £300 for two or £360 for three people as an add-on package. Sporting guests will need to bring their own equipment, and rod license.
The cost of the package includes an introduction to the stretch of water with the Resident Riverkeeper at 9am and a picnic lunch, courtesy of the Chatsworth Farm Shop, to be delivered to the riverbank at an agreed time.
Trout fishing is available 1st April – 7th October

After a full day beside the river, guests can enjoy a relaxing evening meal, with several dining experiences to choose from, whether you prefer an informal pub meal or fine dining.
