Exceptional Holiday Homes in Amazing Places

Recently we were invited to stay at the stunning Edgar House in Chester and what a visit that turned out to be! We were super excited for this visit and here’s why.

One of the luxury holiday homes in the Daisy Joy Escapes portfolio and once an award-winning boutique hotel, Edgar House is now an elegant riverside residence sleeping up to 16 guests – an outstanding and stylish holiday home, enjoying elevated views overlooking the River Dee, and located in the heart of the city, atop its Roman walls.

We were greeted by Caroline Connor, the House Manager and shown around this beautiful, impressive property. Caroline’s passion for Edgar House is contagious and it is easy to where it comes from once you start exploring.

There are amazing facilities include seven ensuite bedrooms, one of which, the Copper Suite, has its own separate living room with a sofa bed. There’s a cinema room, separate games room, huge open plan living space with fully equipped state of the art kitchen, a library complete with log burner, and a unique novelty telephone box bar in the living area.

The Games Room comes complete with air hockey, table football, darts board and juke box!

Ah but that’s not all! Concierge service provides options such as private in-house chef dining (which we were lucky enough to experience), children’s sleepover and garden parties, afternoon tea experiences, wine tasting and home cooked food deliveries.

Extensive terraced gardens with various seating and dining areas, overlook beautiful river views and there’s private parking for up to ten cars.

All in all, Edgar House is the perfect luxury city escape for family, friends, corporate events and gatherings.

We stayed for two nights and on the first night we had our own private chef experience which was sensational! We had a wonderful Italian meal cooked for us by Paola, it was relaxed, unintrusive and very special. We started with a delicious risotto, followed by a fabulous fresh fish dish and an authentic Tiramisu for dessert. All prepared and cooked in front of us by the wonderful Paola!

Because Edgar House is situated actually on the ancient Roman walls, you walk to the bottom of the garden, out of the gate and you are on the walls. We walked them the first day, which was not an ideal day to do so as it was cold and rainy, but the next day was beautiful, so we walked them again and had a totally different experience.

You have superb views and different aspects of the ancient city of Chester from the walls and of course the walls themselves are fascinating.

One of the advantages of staying at Edgar House is its location, once you have arrived, you can forget about your cars and walk anywhere in the city within minutes – and we did! We covered the length and breadth of this wonderful city, breathing in all of that Roman history, shopping till we dropped and walking well-worn hiking routes.

Back at Edgar House, there is no shortage of things to keep you occupied. As already covered, we had a memorable private chef evening, a film night in the cinema room and a fun games afternoon during a rainy few hours on our first day.

The only areas we didn’t make use of were the BBQ and outdoor dining areas, but it was early March and being completely honest, it’s a great reason to go back when it’s warmer! A garden party at Edgar House will be something to remember!

Platinum Jubilee Afternoon Tea Offer

Celebrate the Platinum Jubilee in enviable style this June with a long weekend’s stay in Chester’s smartest holiday home, Edgar House.

Stay at Edgar House for the Platinum Jubilee Holiday weekend, June 3rd – 6th , and enjoy an afternoon tea experience, with teas provided courtesy of tea sommelier and tea designer, Bernadine Tay, founder of Quinteassential (www.quinteassential.co.uk) Bernadine has created blends for luxury establishments such as The Midland Hotel, Hakkasan and for Amanda Wakeley , and even for HRH The Queen.

The only question now is will you opt for ‘Imperial Earl Grey’, which Bernadine blended after taking tea with the descendent of the speciality tea’s epynomous creator, in his Northumbrian home – or go for something more unusual, perhaps the ‘Green Flamingo’ or ‘Tales of Africa’ blend?

The tea party will take place at Edgar House, perhaps in the walled gardens upon their river view terrace, once described by travel writer, Alistair Sawday, as ‘Chester’s equivalent to the Royal Box’.

‘Platinum Jubilee Afternoon Tea experience’ includes your selection of three of Quinteassential’s loose-leaf teas, with a selection of delicate sandwiches and delectable cakes, courtesy of Daisy Joy Escapes’ favourite artisan suppliers, to treat you and your guests during your stay.

3 nights min stay at Edgar House, to sleep up to 14/16 guests is £5250 for the Jubilee Bank holiday weekend including the celebratory Afternoon tea experience, arriving on Friday 3rd June and departing Monday 6th June.
