Escape to the City Of York: Part Two – Moxy Hotel

For our first night in York we were booked into Moxy York hotel and never having stayed in a Moxy, (part of the Marriott group), we were in for a very pleasant surprise.

The Moxy hotel concept is relaxed, colourful and stylish. The bright and open lobby layout is paired with contemporary furniture, the ”Plug and Meet” gathering areas provide modern ergonomic seating and there’s large writing walls and 56 inch televisions for presentation projection. The lobby also boasts a state-of-the art video wall and 24/7 Food and Beverage offering a wide selection of snacks and drinks.

Staffing is minimal with every team member able to do everything from checking you in to take your food order and even run an event! There are no uniforms, just relaxed casual dressing and that relaxed theme runs throughout, making you feel at ease as soon as you arrive. That said, this place runs like a well-oiled machine, and with what seems like effortless ease, the small team have their skills down to a fine art.

Other hotel amenities include a Grab and Go healthy option, continental breakfast or a cooked buffet, an evening bar featuring wines by the glass and local brews, stylish bedrooms with personalised messages written on the mirrors and a 42 inch flat screen television, built in USB ports and free Wifi.

This is also a pet-friendly hotel, so you can bring your furry friends along for the trip! This is a hotel perfect for families too and there are games everywhere to be enjoyed completely free of charge.

Moxy is a vibrant social hub to plug in and get to work, or unplug and socialize. There’s even a gym with cardiovascular equipment, exercise bikes, free weights, strength equipment and a treadmill, so you can keep up to your fitness regime.

During the evening we stayed, the bar was packed for a very popular Quiz Night, we couldn’t quite believe how many people (residents and locals) had turned out on a bitterly cold, drizzly night. The place was buzzing.

Moxy hotel YUZU

What we ate

With all the eclectic eateries to choose from in York, and as Moxy was so busy, we decided to head out YUZU for dinner, we had heard a lot about this street food concept and wanted to try it. YUZU specialise in Asian fusion food, from Katsu to Ramen, Bao Buns to Wings. Taking inspiration from Japanese, Thai, Korean and Chinese cuisine to create incredible dishes with the biggest flavour. We love all of the above and they didn’t disappoint!

YUZU was also on Moxy’s list of recommended places to eat.

We ordered a Chicken Katsu Curry and a Korean Bibimbap. Wow! Large portions, great value and totally authentic. The place was packed and we could see why. This was such a great choice.

Breakfast at Moxy

Breakfast at Moxy is a self-serve affair but be warned, we had a lie in and there wasn’t a lot left by the time we got there, so we settled for some fresh fruit, cereal and toast. With an afternoon coffee and cake, it was enough to see us through to dinner, but it is probably worth getting up early to make sure you have a good feed to set you up for the day.

Parking:

Moxy York have an arrangement with a multi story car park just a couple of minutes away from the hotel. Make sure you have them validate your ticket on check out for a discount.

Huge thanks to Josh, who looked after us so well. Overall, we love the Moxy hotel concept and had a really enjoyable stay.

Check them out for your stay in York if you want a more relaxed yet very cool hotel experience.
