On one of the oldest streets in York, in the neighbourhood of Walmgate, proudly stands Hotel Indigo York. Surrounded by culture and steeped in rich history amidst marvellous modern attractions and an array of vintage and independent shops, there’s plenty here for you to discover.
This is where we spent our third night in York. Hotel Indigo York was another new hotel to us and it’s always exciting to stay somewhere new with no prior knowledge.
First of all, let’s tackle the parking. We were delighted to find out that they have their own car park a couple of minutes’ walk away. We were asked at check in if we needed parking and were given a sign for the dashboard to display and given directions on how to find the car park. It couldn’t have been easier.

Make sure you request parking at the earliest opportunity as in relation to the number of bedrooms, the car park is too small to accommodate everyone.
Our greeting was wonderful; friendly, warm and very welcoming, not just from the receptionist checking us in, but also every member of the team who walked past had a smile on their face and made a point of saying ‘hello’. It was so refreshing. This boutique property is packed with personality at every turn.

The hotel itself is very well designed with a real intimate feel. We loved the décor and the layout of the hotel which has been designed with the guest experience in mind at all times. Reception is the first thing you see as you enter and there’s a plush seating area where we enjoyed a coffee while we waited for our room to be ready.
The room was stunning, chic in design with every amenity you would expect, plus a few more! We particularly liked the York themed snacks and wall art reflecting the city’s rich history, and that bed was roomy and oh so comfortable. We had a great sleep.
Dining is casual yet classy with delicious rustic pizzas and snacks. There’s also an extensive bar menu including signature cocktails, local ales, York Gin and many other local beverages.

But the most memorable thing for us about Hotel Indigo York was the breakfast! We are very fussy about the standard of breakfast when we are away, after all, this is the meal which sets you up for a day of sightseeing and miles of walking and the cooked breakfast menu here was the best we experienced during this trip.
There was plenty to choose from and the quality of the cooked to order dishes was pure perfection! The continental breakfast selection was also the best we had seen, so if you love a good breakfast, this is the hotel for you.

As a boutique hotel, there is no spa, but there is a small gym with cardio and weight machines and free weights, enough for suit the needs of any traveller wanting to keep up their regime.
Overall, we think Hotel Indigo York is an absolute gem of a find and we highly recommend it for your visit to the amazing city of York.
Tell them we sent you.
