Durham’s Iconic Seaham Hall Scoops Gold in 2022 VisitEngland Awards

Five-star luxury boutique hotel, Seaham Hall, took the top trophy for Small Hotel of the Year 2022 in this year’s VisitEngland Awards for Excellence at a ceremony held in Birmingham on 8 June.

Taking place at the Library of Birmingham, the VisitEngland awards were hosted by broadcaster and author Clare Balding and celebrated excellence across the industry, with a focus on quality, innovation and best practice.

Ross Grieve, Managing Director of Seaham Hall, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have been recognised for this prestigious accolade in the VisitEngland Awards. It is truly an honour and one very much shared with the entire team at Seaham Hall. We are very grateful for the team’s passion and ongoing commitment; our fantastic, very loyal guests, are also a huge driver in terms of our success.

“Seaham Hall is very much a destination it its own right, and we proudly champion the region, promoting the beautiful heritage coastline, the city of Durham and the many reasons to visit and spend time in the North East of England to our guests which travel to us from all over the country.”

Seaham Hall is a luxury hotel situated on Durham’s heritage coast, with 21-suites, plus two additional luxury lodges with hot tubs – the Bungalow Suites, which launched in spring 2022, together with two restaurants and an award-winning spa.

Seaham Hall was shortlisted in the Awards for Excellence alongside the stunning and highly regarded No.15 by GuestHouse, Bath and The Idle Rocks, Cornwall.

The annual awards cycle begins with a series of local competitions, which feed into the national VisitEngland Awards for Excellence.

The highlight of each awards cycle is the national VisitEngland Awards for Excellence event, where the finest businesses are awarded what is considered to be the most coveted accolade in English tourism.

Seaham Hall has hit the spotlight several times in the last two years, winning Gold for Small Hotel of the Year at the North East England Tourism Awards 2022, plus several awards for its Serenity Spa – including retaining its 5-Bubble Luxury Spa status since 2016 – plus recognition on the wider stage at the World Spa & Wellness Awards 2022.  Scooping the Hotel Catey 2021 for Spa Professional of the Year, and the top prize for Best Spa in the North East in the Good Spa Guide 2021 have also been important high spots. MD Ross Grieve was also listed in the Boutique Hotelier Top 50 Power List 2022.

With a focus on providing extraordinary experiences for guests, Seaham Hall launched two new Bungalow Suites in spring 2022, with their own hot tubs, BBQ kitchens and personal golf buggies. For the summer, the boutique property has unveiled an exciting new series of seasonal Sunday sessions to bring a fun, festival atmosphere to the hotel’s sweeping terrace.

Outdoor events will take place from June to September at this impressive Georgian country house, which sits in a striking clifftop position, just steps from the beach. Find out more here.
