With summer temperatures continuing to rise across Europe, over-50s travellers are increasingly seeking cooler destinations for their holidays. Award-winning solo tour operator One Traveller has seen growing demand for trips to more temperate regions, where guests can explore comfortably and enjoy a more relaxed pace of travel. This, combined with an increase in flight cost to long-haul destinations in 2026 has lead to a spike in bookings for European tours.
Ian Darkin, founder and CEO of One Traveller, comments: “Many of our guests are choosing cooler capital cities as destinations to make the most of their summer holidays without the challenges that can come with extreme heat. Mature travellers are particularly mindful of comfort when exploring, and cooler climates allow them to fully enjoy guided tours, cultural visits and time outdoors. It’s about travelling well, at the right pace, in the right conditions.”

This trend reflects wider findings from the European Travel Commission, which reports that 76% of travellers are adjusting their travel habits in response to climate change. Notably, 17% of respondents said they plan to avoid destinations with extreme temperatures, rising to 32% among over-55s, highlighting a clear shift among older travellers towards cooler, more comfortable summer escapes.
