A Visitor’s Guide to the Spectacular Sights of Venice

Venice is the floating city of Italy, and with such a grandiose title, visitors can expect to catch many spectacular sights on the streets – or, rather, canals – of Venice. But, this has one drawback! With so many charming attractions to explore, where do you even begin?

Fortunately, we have you covered. With our handy visitor’s guide to the spectacular sights of Venice, making beautiful memories in this picturesque location has never been so easy! Read on for more.

The Canal Grande

sights of Venice

It would be fair of us to say that The Canal Grande is the absolute beating heart of Venice! Sprawling through the entire city area and spiralling off into smaller canals, you can traverse the entirety of Venice via gondola just through this pathway alone. On your way, you might see the gorgeously historic Rialto Bridge, or one of Venice’s many stunning churches. This is a water-bound trip well worth taking.

St Mark’s Basilica

St Mark’s Basilica is Venice’s most regal cathedral, built with a craftsmanship and attention to detail that most properties nowadays can only dream of! Visitors can observe the beauty of St Mark’s Basilica, inside and out. It boasts five huge decorated domes, statuesque marble columns with original mosaics, and swathes of spectacular artwork gilded in gold. Admission to St Mark’s Basilica is free, but we do caution potential visitors; the wait to enter is long, unless you invest in a guided tour or skip the line pass.

The Palazzo Ducale

sights of Venice

The Palazzo Ducale, also known as Doge’s Palace, is self-described as “a masterpiece of Gothic architecture,” and we find it hard to argue! A true testament to the wealth and power of medieval Venice, Doge’s Palace is imposing in the most magnificent way. Visitors can explore its heavenly architecture, masterful paintings, and the artful stucco façade. Rest assured, Doge’s Palace is must-see.

The Murano Glass Museum

For a location that should feature far more on visitor’s guides to Venice, we suggest the Murano Glass Museum. Murano is one of Venice’s northeastern islands, accessible through a boat ride, with a long-standing reputation for stained glass artistry. Visitors can peruse a gorgeous range of ancient and modern glassworks at the museum, but also witness the artists in the midst of their creative process.

Watch artists create modern glassworks based on the beauty of the old, and even get the rare chance to look upon Roman artefacts from the 1st century. Murano is truly unmissable!
