A look at the build of Iona, the largest ship ever built for the UK

P&O Cruises fleet welcome Iona - Watch how all the pieces come together over two years in this latest time-lapse video

Iona recently joined the P&O Cruises fleet, and was welcomed at an official handover ceremony at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. Watch how all the pieces come together over two years in this latest time-lapse video, to form the most innovative and greenest ship yet.

At 185,000 tonnes, 345m in length and with 17 guest decks Iona will set new ground for guest experiences, with a glass-roofed SkyDome, a cool gin distillery, exciting new dining, unseen entertainment concepts and unique wellbeing treats.

Iona’s maiden season will be to Northern Europe, Spain, Portugal and the Canary Islands from our home port of Southampton. Whilst our operations are currently paused until early 2021 Iona will not be sailing for the moment.

Iona’s as yet unnamed sister ship will be delivered in December 2022.
