Skyscanner has officially launched its Travel Trends 2027 report, revealing next year’s top trending and best value destinations alongside seven key trends influencing traveller behaviour and shaping the travel industry. Travellers are becoming more intentional about their getaways, seeking value in the experiences they gain as well as the money they spend.
From switching off completely to keeping active abroad or following a favourite sound across borders, holidays increasingly reflect personal passions and everyday priorities. Taking inspiration from the report, here are seven destinations to match the Skyscanner seven trends for 2027.
Gym-cation – Travellers are putting fitness first, with 67% of millennials favouring hotels serving nutritious breakfasts and 40% of Gen Z prioritising on-site gyms for their next getaway.
Embrace the ‘Gym-cation’ trend in Zurich, Switzerland

Named fourth among the Skyscanner best-value destinations for 2027, Zurich embraces the report’s ‘Gym-cation’ trend, holidays combining sightseeing with fitness and wellbeing. Leave feeling recharged with a session at KEEN Wellbeing, Europe’s first active recovery club, or experience a sauna and cold plunge in a badi, an open-air pool, on Lake Zurich. Discover your health data at AYUN, Switzerland’s first longevity walk-in clinic. The clinic specialises in preventative healthcare and has recently introduced Immune Intelligence testing. Complete your restorative city break at Alma Hotel, with ladies-only wellness and rooftop yoga in summer.
Signal Severance – With 1 in 4 Gen Z travellers planning to disconnect in 2027, remote escapes are on the rise as travellers swap screen time for meaningful, offline experiences.
Switch Off in Yosemite Mariposa County, California

Yosemite Mariposa County offers a natural antidote to screen fatigue. Days can be spent hiking beneath giant sequoias, swimming in mountain lakes and stargazing beneath vast Sierra skies. For a deeper digital detox, Kowana Valley Lodge sits on a 300-acre homestead and operates completely off-grid, with hiking trails, swimming holes and a year-round creek. Alternatively, The Forest Retreat House is entirely designed around the idea of unplugging, with forest walks, meditation spaces, an infrared sauna and outdoor baths beneath the trees.
Pilgra-merch – With 1 in 4 travellers planning trips around exclusive, locally made finds, destination-specific merch and viral souvenirs are becoming the ultimate travel keepsakes.
Boots worth travelling for in Houston, Texas

Houston’s Republic Boot Co. offers the ultimate Texan keepsake. Here, visitors can design their own cowboy boots from an impressive array of hides, colours and intricate designs, or create a personalised cowboy hat at the iconic Hat Bar. With live music, an in-store bar and regular appearances from local legend ‘Fireball Bill’, it’s an authentic Texan experience with a one-of-a-kind souvenir to take home.
Sten Do Surge – Couples are ditching traditional stag and hen parties in favour of joint pre-wedding getaways, with 25% of travellers embracing celebrations that are more fun, affordable and easier to organise
Ski Hard, Party Harder in Méribel, France

For couples who love the slopes as much as a good party, Méribel is the ultimate alpine celebration according to Skyscanner. Set against the snow-dusted peaks of Les Trois Vallées, the chic resort combines world-class skiing with an après-ski scene that rivals Europe’s biggest party destinations. Groups can spend mornings exploring the world’s largest interconnected ski area before swapping ski poles for Aperols at the legendary Le Rond Point, affectionately known as ‘The Ronnie’, where live bands, DJs and a sun-soaked terrace keep the party going. For something more extravagant, La Folie Douce brings cabaret performances, DJs and dancing in ski boots at 2,100 metres above sea level.
Grand Odysseys – Inspired by epic films and TV shows, 33% of travellers are planning history-rich adventures, swapping ordinary getaways for legendary landmarks, ancient ruins and cinematic experiences.
Journey Through the Wild West and Hollywood History in Colorado

The iconic Stanley Hotel inspired Stephen King’s The Shining and famously doubled as the Danbury Hotel in Dumb and Dumber. Travellers can step inside its storied halls on the Spirited Night Tour, uncovering ghostly legends and spine-tingling tales after dark. For a journey straight out of a Western, hop aboard the historic Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, which has been winding through the San Juan Mountains since 1882. With scenes from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid filmed nearby, follow the Animas River past dramatic gorges and pine-covered peaks before arriving in Silverton, a former mining town complete with The Grand Imperial, where bullet holes still tell tales of the Wild West.
Sound Bound – Music lovers are swapping stadium tours for immersive cultural experiences, with 25% of travellers saying the venue matters just as much as the music, driving demand for gigs in extraordinary locations.
Follow the music to the home of blues, soul and rock ‘n’ roll in Memphis, Tennessee

With 25% of travellers saying the venue matters as much as the music, Skyscanner says Memphis offers a soundtrack unlike anywhere else. Known as the Home of Blues, Soul and Rock ‘n’ Roll, visitors can hear the soulful sounds of the blues drifting down legendary Beale Street, step inside Sun Studio where icons including Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash recorded, or discover the city’s rich musical heritage at the Stax Museum of American Soul Music. With 2027 marking 50 years since Elvis Presley’s death, there’s even more reason for music lovers to make the pilgrimage to the city where the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll began his career.
Currency Chasers – Savvy travellers are choosing destinations with favourable exchange rates to stretch their budgets, with 26% switching destinations to make their money go further.
The pound goes further in Nara Prefecture, Japan

Post Office Travel Money highlighted Japan’s value, ranking Tokyo fifth in its 2025 Long Haul Holiday Report and third in its 2026 Winter Sun Holiday Report. For travellers planning a 2027 trip around a favourable pound-to-yen rate, Nara Prefecture combines value with cultural discovery. Wander among the free-roaming deer of Nara Park, where entry is free, then explore the Ancient Capitals of Asuka and Fujiwara, newly inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 2026, whose palace sites, temples and burial mounds tell the story of Japan’s early history.
