The colours we use in our bedrooms can make a big difference to the way that we perceive them, and the level of comfort we’re subsequently able to enjoy. This is the part of the house where this sort of thing really matters – if you’re going to drift off to a good night’s sleep, then the right combination of hues can provide considerable psychological value.
The good news is that we can often achieve spectacular results with just a small splash of colour here and there. But where might we do this?
Use Furniture for Colour Pops
The furniture that occupies your room can be a great vehicle for your chosen hues. If you can wield a paintbrush, then you might provide a new lease of life to ageing dressers, perhaps by sanding them down and painting them bright white. If you’re picking up older furniture with the intention of upcycling it, then you can afford to be a little bit bolder in your choice of colours.

Or, naturally, you can add a splash of colour by inserting a brand new item. Plastics tend to be vibrant – just make sure that your item is going to age well, especially if you’re placing it in direct sunlight.
Add Colour Through Textiles
Perhaps an even simpler way to introduce colour is through patterns and textiles. A little bit of wallpaper on an accent wall can be effective, as can a new set of curtains. But throw pillows and bedding are probably the best place to start. The bed consumes a lot of visual space inside the room, and you can easily mix and match colours until you arrive at something that appeals to you.
Play with Walls

Wallpaper comes in many different varieties, including super-convenient options that can be easily removed without taking the plaster with it. The use of murals and framed artworks can be inspiring, too. If you want to go super bold when it comes to colour, the right wallpaper can be essential. Pink aesthetic wallpaper, for example, is a fantastic option.
Accessorise Thoughtfully
Your choice of small decorative items can make a big difference. Lamps and vases can be a great way to add a small pop of colour here and there, and perhaps to contrast against the hues you’ve chosen for your walls. The lighting itself can make a big difference – when you swap between cool and warm white, the perceived hue of your walls can totally change.
Keep Balance

If you’re unsure about how big and bold you can go, it’s worth acquainting yourself with the fundamentals of colour theory. This is what will allow you to see what will complement and contrast pleasantly. Remember that your bold colours will be vibrant and eye-catching when they’re placed against the right backdrop. But not everything in a given space can be eye-catching!
