The summer months are only a few weeks away, the temperature is steadily rising, the days are getting longer, and the weather is lovely. It’s all good until we get that first really hot day and your home turns into a giant sweatbox.
There’s a lot to love about summer, but most people have a love hate relationship with the heat, sure it’s nice to spend days at the beach or sunbathing in your garden, but when the temperature really starts to get high, you’ll find yourself begging for a break in the weather and a bag of ice. So, this year we’ve got some tips for how you can beat the heat, keeping your home cooler this summer, so keep reading and get the best advice for keeping your cool this year!
Keep Your Windows Shaded

The first tip is quite possibly the easiest tip of them all to keep your home cool this summer: just keep your windows shaded. While it may seem tempting to leave the blinds open and open the windows up, this will just let more heat enter your home and only bring in more hot air, which will have the opposite effect that you’d want.
But, if you keep your windows closed and keep your windows shaded during the day you will block out extra heat from entering your home, resulting in it being much cooler. You’ll want to ensure all your windows are shaded with blinds, especially with big patio doors, if your patio door doesn’t have curtains then a click-fit door blind will do the job perfectly and keep your home cooler.
Avoid Adding More Heat
Some everyday tasks around the house will add some extra heat into your home, which usually isn’t an issue when the weather isn’t warm, but in summertime that extra bit of heat can be the difference between comfortably warm and absolutely sweltering.
Some tasks that will add heat into your home include cooking with an oven, using a tumble drier to dry clothes and hoovering. So, you’ll want to reduce the impact of these tasks. Instead of cooking with your oven, opt for cold meals or cook outside; instead of using your tumble drier to dry clothes, hang them outside to dry; and with tasks like hoovering, you’ll want to do them in the cooler parts of the day like the morning to avoid your home becoming too hot.
Invest In a Good Fan

There are few better feelings in the summertime than the heat being broken by the cool breeze from a fan. A fan will help circulate air through your home, allowing you to feel a breeze during hot days and stop the air in your home turning stale and stuffy.
So, you should invest in a good quality fan for your home in the summer to keep cool. You can take this a step further by helping circulate the air tactically. As heat rises, if you place a fan at the lowest point of your home, facing upwards you can circulate that colder air around your home to cool off, rather than just blowing hot air everywhere.
