5 Essential Tips for Creating a Safe and Cosy Nursery for Your Baby

Designing and creating a nursery is an important step in the nesting process when pregnant. Whether you’re doing this for the first time, or you’re having another baby and decorating a new room in the home, there are plenty tips that can be helpful for creating what will be a safe and cosy space for your baby.

Nurseries are often recommended for babies to go into once they’re six months old, so you might not be using it straight away. However, here are five essential tips that will help you design your baby’s nursery when the time comes.

1.  Choose the right colours

Start with your colour scheme. What would you like when it comes to colours in the space? It’s good to know that you don’t need to go with the typical colours that are often associated with the genders, so there’s really no rule book on what you can and can’t choose.

Think about what colours are available and how you might like to incorporate those colours into the space, whether it’s on the walls with paint or wallpaper, the blinds or curtains you put up, to the soft furnishings on your baby’s cotbed.

2.  Invest in high-quality furniture

High-quality furniture is always good to invest your money in, which is why it’s important you spend your money on the essentials that are going to keep your baby safe.

For example, a cot or cotbed should be supportive, while not providing any degree of danger to your baby. There’s a lot of cheaply made furniture, which can make it risky for your little one to be around.

3.  Create a safe sleeping environment

Creating a safe sleeping space is important when it comes to your little one, which is why it’s a good idea to look at cosy baby sleeping bags that are safe for your little ones to be in from various ages.

You want to avoid using any covers or blankets that could otherwise go over a little one’s head while they’re sleeping.

Think about other low-hanging objects or cables that are on the ground, that could pose a danger to your baby when they’re crawling or walking.

4.  Use soft and ambient lighting

Soft and ambient light is the best way to make your nursery environment feel cosy for you and your little one.

Think about what type of lighting to introduce into the space, and the levels you might want to incorporate into it, too.

5.  Keep the room organised and clutter-free

It’s always good to keep your room organised when it comes to creating a safe and clutter-free environment. If the room is a mess, then this poses potential tripping hazards and even choking hazards depending on what’s lying about.

With that being said, look at how you could keep the room organised. Make use of cubes that keep things organised in drawers and multi-functional storage solutions.

These essential tips will keep you and your little one safe while enjoying the comfort of a nursery.
