Picking the right Wellness Retreat for you is a bit like shoe shopping. They all have a similar function but are delivered in very different ways.
The Wellness Retreat at Warner Hotel’s Thoresby Hall run by Carlie Barlow Health and Wellbeing is like the sheepskin slipper of retreats. Comforting, soft and dependable. Designed as an introduction to wellness practices it is a great option for those who might be a little nervous, suffered a trauma or feel a bit intimidated by the idea.
Set in the grounds of the impressive Grade 1 listed Thoresby Hall the Wellness Retreat takes place in a lovely barn adorned in twinkly lights, with all equipment and herbal tea that you could want, the barn quickly becomes a safe place that you are drawn back to.

The schedule for the five day retreat is packed with everything from sunrise yoga, mindfulness walks, guided meditations, ice baths, sound baths and Pilates! You can attend as much or as little of the sessions as you like with no judgement from the warm, friendly staff.
From the moment we arrived I felt at ease and we were guided expertly through the practices. It was clear the staff has worked together before as everything in the delivery flowed seamlessly together. The live music element really brought the experiences to life and created an amazing emotionally charged atmosphere. I thought it might make me uneasy but it was so well executed it made all the difference.

The Ice Bath experience was a highlight for me. I have been interested in Cryotherapy for a long time and having the relaxation mediation beforehand, music, group support and coaching made it safe and fun. The dopamine rush is undeniable. There is a natural exhilaration that you are feel afterwards which will make me seek out this practice again and again.
There’s so much else to do at the hotel aside from the wellness retreat. You can take Afternoon Tea in the magnificent Blue Grill Brasserie, attend an Archery lesson, get a massage at the spa or go to one of the shows they put on every night.

The rooms here are clean, spacious and I drank in the view out over the incredible grounds from my historic room. Being able to take a soak in the rolltop bath with a view of the trees of Sherwood Forest and the moon was so luxurious and the history of this epic building really added to the drama of the stay.
The resort is undeniably aimed at a more mature demographic so this would be the perfect choice for beginners or those who want to dip their toe into the wellness pool.
