With the evenings drawing in, Langdale Chase in the Lake District is pleased to announce a series of activities for guests that will keep the winter blues at bay. From hiking across the hills with inspirational guide Steve Watts MBE to e-biked safaris and bushcraft survival, these new adventures are guaranteed to get you up and out.
With one in twenty people diagnosed with Seasonal Affective Disorder annually and official guidance recommending natural light, exercise and stress reduction as treatments, an immersive trip of outdoor adventures to The Lakes is the perfect way to get a boost this winter.
After a day of adventure, guests can unwind in the cinema room with popcorn, sweets, and ice cream or curl up with a good book in the suites’ reading nooks overlooking the lake. Wine tastings with the sommelier, an Afternoon Tea inspired by the adventures in Swallows and Amazons, cocktails in the art deco bar, and dining at the two AA Rosette restaurant are also on offer.
Hiking with Steve Watts MBE offers more than scenic walks; it’s a motivational journey. Steve transformed his post-military life through running, eventually completing the Everest Marathon with a pacemaker, supporting Sherpas affected by the 2014 avalanche and raising millions for charity via multiple impressive feats. With his deep knowledge of the Lake District and a passion for sharing hidden gems far from the crowds, Steve’s guided hikes offer more than just stunning views —they’re journeys of motivation, filled with stories of resilience and outdoor adventures. Whether it’s a leisurely stroll through Rydal Hall or a challenging trek like the 3,000-foot Fairfield Horseshoe.
Bushcraft by the Campfire, a cosy and interactive family experience. The popularity of Forest Schools is booming across the UK, with parents seeking to get their pre-schoolers back to nature, but few get to join in the fun themselves. At Langdale Chase guests can now join in by booking a Bushcraft experience with Graythwaite Adventure. Guests will learn survival skills while warming up around an open fire, sipping hot chocolate, and toasting marshmallows in the ancient woodland.
E-bike safaris, tailored by local expert Phil from E Bike Safaris, offer the perfect way for guests to explore their scenic surroundings while boosting aerobic activity, regardless of fitness levels. The awe-inspiring routes through the dramatic Duddon Valley, Wrynose Pass, and high fells around Langdale Chase provide unforgettable experiences. Aerobic exercise is known to reduce anxiety, while awe has been shown to improve mood, reduce rumination, and inspire altruistic behaviour. High-spec electric bikes are delivered to guests chosen starting point, complete with a full tutorial on bike use, navigation kit, and custom maps. Guests are in safe hands with Phil on standby throughout the day to ensure he can offer a helping hand if needed.
Paddleboarding and Kayaking on Lake Windermere, offering a peaceful way to explore England’s largest natural lake. This new complimentary activity is available on the water just steps from the hotel and is perfect for those seeking a gentle yet invigorating introduction to the waters.
Flavours of The Lakes, a two-night culinary stay. This two-night experience is the perfect way to top-off an outdoor adventures break. In addition to daily breakfast overlooking the lake, guests will be treated to dinner in the panoramic dining room on night one and a Swallows and Amazons inspired Afternoon Tea on day two. Dinner is a curated fine-dining experience with dishes inspired by the Lake District and complemented by wine pairing. The Afternoon Tea is a delightful nod to the culinary escapades of Swallows and Amazon’s adventurous young protagonists and its author. It celebrates the artisans and craftspeople of the Lake District, with the hand-thrown pottery and bespoke woodwork the tea is served on all crafted locally.
Langdale Chase opened its doors in November 2023 following an extensive 12-month restoration, with interiors that transport guests back to the 1920 and 1930s heyday era of the Lake District. The stunning 30-room Grade II listed property has seven spacious suites with cosy reading nooks overlooking the lake, five dog friendly rooms, a two AA Rosette restaurant and art deco style bar, a cinema room and boundless outdoor activities.
Langdale Chase’s mission is simple: to offer superb hospitality in a setting that poet William Wordsworth described as “The loveliest place that man hath ever found.”
