A Wellness Escape Worth Shouting About at Redworth Hall

There are few things more restorative than stepping away from everyday life for 24 hours and giving yourself permission to simply slow down.

Set within 26 acres of peaceful landscaped grounds in County Durham, Redworth Hall offers exactly that: a grand 17th-century Jacobean manor house with a modern focus on rest, relaxation and wellbeing. A perfect blend of in-room wellness kits and a peaceful spa, everything is on hand to create the perfect wellness experience.

I recently checked in with my daughter for an overnight stay to experience the hotel’s new range of wellness offerings – and from the moment we arrived, the intention was clear: switch off, slow down and recharge, both in room and in the spa. It was much needed and after switching off phones, we felt ready to embrace twenty four hours of self-indulgence.

Waiting for us in our deluxe front-of-house room were four carefully curated wellness experiences. With the Sleep Retreat Kit, Express LED Face Mask Glow Ritual, Active Wellness Kit and In-Room Spa Ritual all ready to enjoy, it felt like we had brought a little wellness retreat into the room with us. I loved the fact we could access these at a time that suited us and no appointments to work around.

We spent some time exploring the boxes before heading down to The Retreat.

The spa at Redworth Hall had views looking out across a garden area and had a wonderfully calming atmosphere. There was a drinks station which was most welcome and a variety of different places to sit and relax. We quickly found our favourite spot for the afternoon: one of the cosy canopy beds by the pool.

It was the perfect place to retreat between swims, and we happily whiled away the late afternoon moving between the pool, steam room and jacuzzi. Sometimes the simplest luxury is having nowhere else to be, and Redworth Hall gave us exactly that.

As the afternoon slipped into the evening, we headed back to our room to get ready for dinner at the hotel’s 1744 Restaurant.

We were seated in the main dining area which was vibrant and lively. The staff were keen to make sure we had everything we needed and took the time to check in with us throughout the night.

The evening began with starters of smoked salmon, crackers and capers served with a tartare sauce, presented beautifully and a favourite dish for me. My daughter enjoyed hot corn ribs that definitely lived up to their name – delicious, but with a serious kick!

For main course, I chose slow-braised lamb shank with buttery mashed potato and greens, a wholesome dish cooked to perfection. My daughter chose steak served with salad and fries. Both were comforting, generous and exactly the kind of food you want after an afternoon spent relaxing in the spa.

Dessert followed with a strawberry Eton mess for my daughter, a sweet, crunchy bowl of deliciousness. I went for a cheeseboard accompanied by a well-earned glass of red. There was a great selection of cheeses, crackers, a delicious pickle and crisp grapes.

A short after dinner stroll to walk off a slight overindulgence was much needed before we returned to our room for what turned out to be one of our favourite parts of the stay: the In-Room Spa Ritual.

Designed to promote relaxation, self-care and a sense of calm, the experience transformed our hotel room into our own private sanctuary.

We set the meditation playlist, plugged in the Himalayan salt lamp and lay back to relax. With the use of an LED face mask and an aromatic diffuser, it was a wonderfully simple way to end the day – and a reminder that wellness doesn’t always need to be complicated.

Redworth Hall’s new wellness experiences offer something for everyone, whether you’re looking to improve your sleep, refresh tired skin, support your fitness routine or simply carve out some much-needed time for yourself. The Sleep Retreat Kit includes This Works products, sleep tea and the use of a mist diffuser and aromatherapy oils, while the Express LED Face Mask Glow Ritual is designed to restore a healthy-looking glow.

For us, however, the real joy was having the opportunity to experience a little bit of everything before we climbed into bed, well rested and ready for the deepest, dreamiest sleep.

And then in the morning, breakfast with a view before a late checkout. A delicious self-serve breakfast with both continental and cooked options were set out, the hardest part was deciding what to choose.

Breakfast felt unhurried, indulgent and exactly what the morning after a spa evening should feel like.

there was no need to rush straight back to reality either with our late checkout, so we took advantage and used the active wellness kit before we said goodbye. A gentle stretch supported by the yoga equipment and then a hydration drink with the most delicious protein balls left us rejuvenated and ready to start the day.

Sometimes, one night away is all it takes to reset.

The Redworth Hall new wellness experiences are available as add-ons to overnight stays, with prices starting from £25.
