Sunshine In A Bowl At Poke House

If you want to switch up your bland lunch box to all the colours of the rainbow read on.

As spring is on the horizon is there anywhere in London more fabulous than Covent Garden? The street performers, the tourists, and the sun shining makes this part of the capital come alive.

Our writer Rachel McAlley visited Poke House Covent Garden for lunch recently, here’s the low down on her sunshine in a bowl at Poke House.

Poke House Covent Garden

Poke House is a fabulous little eatery that specialises in Poke Bowls, the main dish of traditional Hawaiian cuisine. There are a number of restaurants across London, and they all serve a colourful mix of proteins, fruits and vegetables that come layered on top of each other in a Poke Bowl.

Customers enter the restaurant and choose either a regular or large sized bowl, then choose two bases. These can include white sushi rice, venus rice, wholegrain brown rice, quinoa, or fresh kale. Then you slide over to the protein section, two or three depending on your bowl size. Choices include salmon, tuna, shrimp, slow cooked chicken, teriyaka chicken, and falafel or vegan nuggets.

Once the base and protein are in the bowl you move across to the greens and the dressings. So much choice when it comes to the vegetables, everything from avocado and carrot to cucumber and corn. Equally there are sweet potatoes, feta cheese, pickled beets, edamame, and spring onions. Then it’s onto a dressing or two, from soy to spicy peanut, and wasabi mayo to avocado cream there’s plenty of choice.

Finally add something crispy to the Poke Bowl with the likes of seaweed cashew, tobiko, crispy onions, or almonds being just a few. It’s a wonderful way to enjoy lunch, a salad with a difference, and some great flavours that beat an average lunch bowl any day.

Furthermore, a Limited Edition Fashion Bowl is running from now until Tuesday 28th February. Poke House has put together this ultimate Fashion Bowl to coincide with London Fashion Week. Altogether it’s a bowl rich in Vitamin B2 (quinoa), Vitamin B12 (almonds) and Vitamin C (kale) making it perfect for running between runways and shows.
