Piccolino2Go promise to deliver cordon bleu food to your door and that’s exactly what happened in our household on Saturday date night. Having perused the extensive online menu Piccolino Ilkley has not limited their ambition to give you their usual quality dining experience in your own home. With all their usual fayre of pastas, pizza, risottos, creative starters, salads & delicious mains and you can even add wine & drinks to your selection.
Classic Italian flavours at home – From the moment we placed our order which was easily done, the only challenge was deciding what to choose. We opted to collect the food as we don’t live within the five-mile delivery radius, but we were keen to support a local business and enjoy having Piccolino Ilkley do the cooking for us.
The food collection at the restaurant itself goes the extra mile. A resident in house DJ provides music while you wait at your socially distanced table. Your boxed food order is presented to you and the friendly and engaging staff insist on helping to carry your bounty to the car.
So our special date night began with me staying at home to light the candles and hubby heading out to bring home the bacon. The whole experience echoes a Christmas morning. You can see the boxes under the tree, in this instance on the kitchen counter, however, unlike Christmas we had selected the culinary extravaganza within, and the anticipation and subsequent delight is pretty much the same. This was a stand-out night at home which gave us light and pure indulgence during these dark times.
The starters of Bruschetta with Gamberoni and Capesante (Isle of Man Scallops with chorizo on a bed of broccoli), both were packed full of flavour, gave us a superb start. Followed on with a full Lobster which we shared. A delicious indulgence, as is always the case with Lobster, you know you’ve eaten something special and this was no exception. As our main we ordered Chateaubriand for two, medium rare, with fries, grilled tomato & mushrooms and a choice of sauces. The jus had settled in the bottom of the container and was delicious however we had opted for peppercorn sauce, always a winner with a top-notch steak dish, and we tried the porcini mushroom sauce. All three added something although the quality of the cut of beef was excellent in its own right.
We couldn’t let date night happen without one final indulgence. Two beautifully prepared desserts of Torta Di Passione (passion fruit cheesecake) and Tortino Al Cioccolato. The first a lovely light blend of a crispy base, mouth-watering cheesecake and then the tangy layer of passion fruit topping with passion fruit on the side. The chocolate “Tortino” was everything it should be . . . a chocolate cupcake with a melting heart and this delivered exactly what is it said on the tin. Chocoholics knock yourselves out.
The whole package comes with reheating instructions although we did not have to do much of that. Our food was lovingly prepared, really well packaged (I now have containers that I can use again and again so this is surprisingly sustainable). Our Piccolinoo2Go dining at home experience matched the high expectations that we have come to enjoy from a Piccolino Restaurant dining experience.
