PARK LIFE: MULTISTORIES SOARS ON OPENING WEEKEND

If the idea of tapas, tunes and cocktails on the roof of a car park sounds a little strange to you, then you’re probably not alone. I was a little dubious myself, however, Multistories turned out to be the much-needed shot of adrenaline central Leeds so desperately needs right now.

The summer pop-up is the brainchild of the team behind the wildly successful Box on the Docks in Manchester and has some of the best independents supplying the food and drink. Taking place every Friday, Saturday and Sunday throughout summer, the space can comfortably house up to 350 guests.

We arrived late afternoon, just as the sun crept out and the atmosphere started to get lively, largely thanks to the eclectic ear candy supplied by DJ Reeshy who was dropping chunky house one minute and Madonna’s Holiday the next. It was a shame restrictions dictated that getting up for a dance was a bit of a no-no, but we did spot several people having a sly boogie on the way back to their tables (roll on July 19th).

Ice cold ales are on tap courtesy of Camden Town, whilst wine and a small but tempting menu of cocktails are available to those looking to get a bit boozier.

Food-wise, there were just three vendors during our stay, but it was a case of quality over quantity. Yorkshireman Matt Healy has created his very own Tapas Xperience for the event, which includes an array of delicious small plates and premium sharing platters.

Anyone familiar with Manchester’s Northern Quarter will have probably heard of Solita, who in my humble opinion are responsible for the best dirty food menus you’ll find in the UK. I can highly recommend their Chalet Girl Wagyu Burger, which comes smothered with raclette cheese, truffle mayo and pickles. Proper tasty.

Those with a sweet tooth and a bad case of the munchies won’t go hungry either, as local sensation The Savvy Baker has a stall offering her unique brand of calorific brownies with a side serving of ice cream. WIth dreamy toppings such as Oreo and Rolo on offer, you don’t want to miss out.

Walk-ins are possible during quieter periods, but it’s highly recommended you pre-book a table online to guarantee your spot. Tables are booked for 2.5 hours at a time, which seemed to fly by in the blink of an eye during our visit.

Final verdict

Multistories is an essential destination in Leeds this summer, offering the kind of exceptional food, drink and music that will make you forget about the past 18 months, even for just a few hours. With the big Euros games being screened over the next two weekends, it’s only set to get bigger and better. Just go.
