Love Food Give Food with YO! Sushi

How often can you say that you've eaten out at a restaurant and supported a Charity at the same time? Read on to find out more...

Not only did our writer Rachel McAlley enjoy lunch at YO! Sushi in York recently but she also found about the Action Against Hunger campaign called Love Food Give Food.

YO! Sushi has signed up to be part of the Love Food Give Food campaign throughout October.

Words by Rachel McAlley

Firstly let’s talk about the lunch in York! There is such a great menu at YO! Sushi so it was hard to choose which dishes to go for. Obviously I went for a bottomless cup of Miso Soup, because it’s just the loveliest of soups to enjoy on a miserable October day.

Secondly I chatted with Jason at front-of-house who spoke passionately about his favourite dishes from the menu, of which I opted for one of them, the Beef Teriyaki. He also enlightened me to the new conveyor belt system that they have in place. Green light means the food is being prepared. Amber light means that the food is on the conveyor belt. And, red light means that the order is at my table and ready to take. It’s always fun and entertaining at YO!

So, I chose the beef teriyaki as previously mentioned, spicy chilli squid, Katsu prawns, and seaweed – which were divine. My absolutely favourites were the beef and the seaweed, I could have easily stayed all afternoon and indulged in more and more of both of these dishes.

Restaurant Manager and YO! chef, Dan came for a chat to talk me through the new structure of the restaurant, and the menu. He was relatively new to the YO! Sushi family, but he knew his stuff. It was really interesting to find out about the food and how it’s produced fresh daily in the York restaurant.

Thirdly, and most importantly all UK-wide YO! Sushi restaurants are supporting the Action Against Hunger Charity campaign, Love Food Give Food this October. It’s simple for everyone to get involved. A discretionary £1 is added to each table’s bill and it goes to Action Against Hunger to help children in poorer countries. That £1 will cover the cost of a single day’s life-saving food to help a malnourished child. It’s such a simple campaign and one that can save thousands of children’s lives across the world.

Why not visit your local YO! Sushi restaurant this month and help to make a difference?
