It’s a Cracker! North Yorkshire Moors Railway Launches Festive Dining

With thoughts already turning to the season of goodwill, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) has announced the mouth watering menus for its popular Christmas Moorlander Lunches and Christmas Buffet.

An unforgettable dining experience on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, through the North York Moors National Park, the seasonal services will run throughout December*, departing from Grosmont station at midday; the Christmas Moorlander menu served on an eclectic mix heritage carriages, each decked out with Christmas decorations. The Christmas Buffet Lunch is available for guests who charter the opulent Great Western Saloon carriage.

The mouthwatering Christmas Moorlander menu starts with a warming glass of mulled wine, before being served a starter of either Spiced Root Vegetable Soup, Goats Cheese Curd or Smoked Salmon Mousse.

For your main course, NYMR’s Head Chef has prepared Traditional Roast Turkey, Rolled Pork Roulade or Pumpkin, Chestnut & Sage Wellington, all served with crispy roast potatoes, sprouts and honey roast carrots & parsnips.

Before you enjoy a freshly brewed Yorkshire tea or coffee and a mince pie (of course!) on the return journey from Pickering, you have the option of Traditional Christmas Pudding, Apple & Wild Berry Crumble Tart or a Selection of Cheeses to indulge in**.

The Christmas Buffet Lunch menu in the Great Western Saloon – available for up to 18 people – features a selection of savoury dishes including a Cold Meat Platter, Smoked Salmon Platter, Traditional Pork Pie and Cheese and Broccoli Quiche. These are accompanied by artisan breads and a mixed leaf salad.

Desserts follow – a zesty lemon tart, moist fruit cake slice and mince pies from Stonehouse Bakery. Those with a preference for savoury can choose the selection of Yorkshire cheeses served with savoury crackers, celery, apple, grapes and Yorkshire chutney. The lunch also includes a freshly brewed Yorkshire tea or coffee.
