Being massive foodies, (in particular we are always on the hunt for a great Sunday lunch menu), we are delighted to have found an absolute gem to share with you.
If you’re looking for a Yorkshire pub with great pub food, roaring fires, a delicious Sunday lunch and space for your four-legged friends after a long walk on the moors, The Turkey Inn at Goose Eye is the destination foodie pub for you.
Now in all honesty, being originally from the area, The Turkey Inn was a popular place to go for a great night out many years ago, but having moved to Leeds, it is also many years since I set foot in the place. I had no idea what to expect, but I was about to find out what I had been missing!

Based near the Yorkshire moors and the popular town of Haworth, in the hamlet of Goose Eye, The Turkey Inn offers an instant warmth and a great Yorkshire welcome as soon as you set foot through the door. It’s easy to see why it is so popular with local residents, but more than that, we now understand why this has gained a reputation as a destination foodie pub.
We were there to try the Sunday Lunch Menu having heard so much about it.
This is a meal full of tradition that we are absolutely passionate about, we have our own stringent check list to see if it’s going to make it into our Top 10 recommendations.
Let’s start…
Location:
Does it get any better than being in the heart of the glorious Yorkshire countryside, surrounded by green rolling hills, old stone cottages and Haworth on the doorstep for a post lunch mooch? That’s not really a question that needs an answer!
Perfect for hikers, cyclists and dog walkers – your pooches are made as welcome as you.
This destination foodie pub is worth the drive if you’re not in the immediate area – make it a day out. There is private car park with ample parking opposite the pub.
Ambience:

Run by local residents Steve Mortimer and Fay Howell, who took over in November 2020, they have transformed The Turkey Inn into a welcoming, family and dog friendly pub known for good pub food and real local ale. With roaring fires and lots of cosy corners to relax in.
We found it to be a stunning traditional pub with the warmest of welcomes, a large selection of locally brewed beer on tap and a great selection of handpicked wines and local spirits. Add to that an impressive set menu and daily specials, and a great outdoor space to breathe in that pure Yorkshire country air as you enjoy your pint.
Sunday Lunch:
Having seen some food being served to other customers, it’s fair to say we were salivating! If it tasted as good as it looked this could possibly become our new destination go to for our Sunday roast.

Starters: Twice Baked Cheese Souffle, parmesan crisp, white sauce. They had me at cheese! This was everything I hoped it would be, cheesy and light as a feather. Although it was a large portion, it didn’t spoil my appetite for the main event (roast beef). We also ordered Pan Fried Scallops, roasted cauliflower puree, black pudding crumb and bacon crisp. This came recommended and spoken like a true Yorkshire woman – By ‘Eck it was superb!
Main Course: Roast Beef (well it had to be didn’t it), Yorkshire Pudding, roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables and gravy – oh with the recommended Cauliflower Cheese on the side!

Warning – these are proper Yorkshire portions. Come hungry leave very happy. But let’s face it, size isn’t everything, and on this occasion the quality was everything. Succulent roast beef served pink – and plenty of it. A large crispy Yorkshire Pudding, perfect to collect lots of that beefy gravy, and an impressive selection of vegetables, not just your usual cabbage and peas, and everything was cooked to perfection.
Our one disappointment – we were too full for pudding! I guess we will just have to go back!
Field to Fork Project:
A word from the owners: “We’re passionate about providing the best quality local produce for our customers and, we want to use the best meat we can on the menu. We’re also passionate about being honest regarding the food on your plate which is why we wanted to share this with you.

We have reared our own Belted Galloway cattle just 500m from the pub, on the farm where we live. Our herd are British Belted Galloway, they are amongst the best beef there is. They live the life of Riley and feel like part of our family, they spend most of their lives in the field, having a great time.
We’re extremely proud that not only is there total transparency on our beef supply chain but that it’s local, fresh, high quality produce. What does this mean? At certain times of the year, the beef you see on the menu at the Turkey Inn came from 500m away. It doesn’t get much more local than that!”
Our Verdict:
The secret is out – this is definitely our new destination foodie pub. All I can say is superb in every way – see you there!
