Is Gaucho the Best Value Lunch in London?

Latin American steakhouse Gaucho are extending their Long Lunch Offer until the end of September and this has to be the best value lunch in London.

£75pp may not sound particularly good value but if you are going out for a long, boozy lunch in an upscale restaurant in London, you will not do it for much less than this and the quality of this lunch is phenomenal. Maybe Gaucho know that I am partial to a sunny terrace, champagne, free flowing Rose and flavoursome South American inspired food, because the Long Lunch ticks every box that I am looking for.

Gaucho has been the hallmark of a fancy steak lunch since I arrived in London over 20 years ago.  Their signature cowskin and black marble interiors have always been luxe and dramatic, and the food has been consistently good over their 30-year reign in the city.  I even had my 30th birthday in their private dining room at this very branch in Piccadilly 15 years ago!

There are many london steak restaurants to choose from so make sure you choose wisely.

The cowskin may have gone but the quality remains and as we settled into our Long Lunch experience on the sunny, riviera inspired terrace I experienced a warm wave of nostalgia and excitement.  Who doesn’t love a boozy lunch on a Friday or Saturday?

Included in the Long Lunch offer is, a glass of Champagne on arrival, three starters including Burrata, Tomato and Basil Salad, Sea Bass Ceviche, Beef Tartare Tostadas, a 200g Strip Steak with fries and Dulce Leche Ice Cream.  Throughout the lunch Mirabeau Etoile Rose is free flowing and at the end of the meal you are served a cocktail from Gaucho’s new cocktail list the Yerba Mate Fizz.

The food was just as good as I remembered.  The sweetest cherry tomatoes were served with cool, creamy burrata and the steak tartare was the perfect drinking bite.  The steak was cooked to perfection, and I also enjoyed the fact that a sweet ending was included, avoiding the classic “shall we have a dessert” debate.  I absolutely loved the fact the food came out at a slow pace allowing us to settle in and enjoy the experience.

The Rose was of excellent quality and my glass was never dry.  The lunch runs from 12 noon to 2.30pm and the whole experience felt so relaxed and special.  When you take into account the setting, superb waiting staff, exceptional quality of the ingredients and the fact that we didn’t have to think about what we were ordering, or how much was left, or whether or not to get another bottle, it really did add to the experience.

The other fantastic win of course, is that you know exactly what the bill will be at the end.  Run don’t walk to enjoy this experience.

The Long Lunch deal is available at five restaurants across the city.  Canary Wharf, Richmond, Broadgate, Hampstead and Piccadilly.
