Excellent Family Dining at Prezzo

Our writer, Rachel McAlley was invited to sample the menu at Prezzo in York. She visited the Vanguard restaurant, just outside the city and wasn’t disappointed.

I parked in the Vanguard car park, just next to the York football stadium, and walked towards the Prezzo entrance. The first thing I noticed was that the restaurant was very busy, and they were having to turn people away due to being full. In today’s current climate it was really great to see this restaurant thriving.

Starters

I was seated near the window with my family and we perused the menu before placing our drinks order. Our starters included Tomato Bruschetta (£8), Crispy Fried Mozzarella (£8), and Oven-Baked King Prawns (£9).

The prawns were the standout dish, full of flavour with the chilli butter, parsley and chives. Served with focaccia bread, perfect for dunking in the hot butter.

Mains

For the mains we ordered a Pepperoni Pizza (£14.25), Crab & Lobster Ravioli (£19), and Tuscan Beef & Mash (£19.95). Additionally, we ordered a couple of side dishes including House Fries (£4.75), Baby Caesar Salad (£4.50), and a Baby Caprese Salad (£4.50). There were two exceptionally good dishes here. Firstly, the hearty portion of Tuscan Beef, which was slow-braised in a rich, peppery red wine sauce. Secondly, the ravioli, which was served in a velvety lobster bisque with prawns and cherry tomatoes – a perfect mouthful of flavours!

Desserts

Moving over to the dessert menu, we couldn’t decide straight away, so our lovely server talked us through her favourites. After much deliberation we chose Sticky Toffee Pudding (£8), Black Forest Sundae (£8.75), and from the kids menu the Chocolate Dippers (£2) and a Latte (£4).

The sticky toffee pudding took the trophy as best dessert, closely followed by the chocolate dippers, or so the 13-year old at our table thought!

Even though the restaurant was busy, every staff member working at Prezzo made sure that each guest enjoyed their meal. It was great to see every table full with families, couples and parties tucking into great food and drink.
