Hot on the heels of their flagship venue in central Leeds, The BOX Chapel Allerton arrived a little more quietly than its predecessor just in time for the post-lockdown madness a few weeks back. Occupying the venue formerly known as The Pit, the uber sports bar brand has been welcomed by locals, especially those looking to catch the highly-anticipated Euros.
Boasting an impressive 14 ultra-HD screens throughout the venue (including the outdoor terrace), each guest is guaranteed the perfect view of the match, no matter where they happen to be perched. Add to that the bars winning range of international and local ales, spirits and cocktail creations, and Arc Inspirations seem all set for another surefire hit.
We arrived for a late lunch on a sunny afternoon, and managed to get a prime spot on the terrace to soak up some rays. Soon after we were supping some ice cold beer tank fresh Budvars as we checked out the latest menu.
To kick things off, we went with the reassuringly calorific Classic Nachos which come stacked with melted cheese, avocado, salsa and sour cream. Alongside these, we shared some deliciously sticky Buffalo Chicken Wings, which come with a cooling ranch dressing. Awesome stuff, and the perfect companion to the aforementioned moreish Budvar.
For mains, I went with the exceptionally good Burrow’s Burger, which is a bestseller for a reason. Boasting a large, beautifully crisp coated chicken tender, smoked pancetta, BBQ sauce, mayo and all the trimmings, it’s a real beast of a burger that makes for the perfect treat on cheat days.
Named after Leeds legend Rob Burrow’s, it’s also worth noting that a donation is made to the Motor Neurone’s Disease Association with each and every sale, which is a lovely touch.
Across the table, the Chicken Shawarma was also receiving rave reviews. Stuffed with premium marinated chicken breast, crisp salad and a generous serving of the BOX’s signature spicy kebab sauce, I can confirm this dish elevates the classic kebab to levels you won’t find in your average takeaway.
Final verdict
If you love the BOX in central Leeds, this latest venue in one of the city’s coolest suburbs will not disappoint. Smaller in scale, it still impresses with excellent drinks, bar food and friendly staff who can’t do enough. An essential bar for sports lovers.
