Wine Unpacked, founded by Tom Planer, has launched a brand-new wine tasting subscription service. Wine Unpacked aims to debunk the myths and mystery surrounding wine and transform even the most novice wine drinker into a sommelier supreme.
Each month, the team curates a bespoke box which spotlights different grapes, styles or types of wine, including classics such as Chardonnays, Pinot Noirs and Sauvignon Blancs, with the aim of uncovering the key differences between them. Subscribers will receive the monthly box delivered directly to their door to help them become a wine expert.
As well as six fun-sized wines, recipients will find everything they need to begin their wine tasting journey, including a tasting notes card and access to online tutorials. Every box is accompanied by a video featuring Holly Willcocks, ex-Noble Rot sommelier and co-founder of Camden’s Half Cut Market. For the first box, Holly talks through how to taste wine before giving in-depth yet accessible information on each included wine.
Tom founded Wine Unpacked after taking part in a wine course, where he finally learned to understand the ins and outs of wine after years of being stumped by restaurant wine lists. He launched the company with the aim of empowering others like him and giving them the opportunity to gain quick and simple wine knowledge, equipping them with the ability to confidently buy and order wine.
Wine Unpacked is set for a major year with a video ‘Drink Along with…’ series, launching in Spring 2022. The series will feature wine loving guests from the food, music and entertainment worlds and beyond. It will be a celebration of wine that delves into guests’ wine-discovery stories, what they like to eat while sipping their favourite bottles and, most importantly, allows the audience to drink along at home while learning about different wines.

The one-off Wine Unpacked box sets out to introduce the fundamentals of wine tasting. The subscription service then allows users to build and improve on their knowledge across a major range of wines. Two size options are available, 6 x 60ml bottles, perfect for those who want to plug into wine tasting solo, whilst the 6 x 100ml bottles are ideal for pairs.
