An Afternoon Spent at Gino D’Acampo

Family and friends is the ethos behind dining at Gino D'Acampo.

H&N writer Rachel recently experienced lunch at Gino D’Acampo, The Springs Leeds. In her own words, “it was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon”.

I was greeted on arrival with a quick covid temperature check, then my daughter and I were seated at a booth in the heart of the restaurant.

The walls, adorned with framed photos of Gino, his family and celebrity friends. A gentle nod to the Italian ethos of food being about spending time with family and friends.

The Decor

The table was spotlessly clean, along with a wiped down menu, which is exactly what I was looking for. Our server was covid-compatible, wearing a Gino D’Acampo branded face mask, and advised where the sanitising stations were located.

I ordered drinks, and spent a while examining the jam packed menu with everything I could imagine. For the first course I ordered a sharer starter of garlic bread with smoked Provola and mozzarella cheese. Secondly I followed the bread with arancine crispy mushroom risotto balls and a tomato sauce. The third course mains included margarita pizza with fresh basil, and a tuna and mixed bean salad. Finally, I dived into vanilla gelato for dessert, and we shared a slice of chocolate and hazelnut cheesecake with sour cherries.

On each table diners could help themselves to Gino’s beautifully bottled olive oils and balsamic vinegar. I could also purchase these from the Gino D’Acampo My Grocery Store to take home.

Aside from dining in the restaurant, they also offer takeout, and freshly made piadina, spianata, and other sandwiches. There is also a selection of Italian produce to take home including pasta, sauces, dried goods, oils, and cook books.

It was a busy Friday afternoon in the restaurant, but I would never have known as tables were socially distanced. The staff were all attentive, the tables were lively, and guests were spending the afternoon with friends and family. The whole atmosphere was welcoming and enjoyable. At no point did I feel rushed at our table, the team made my daughter and I feel relaxed throughout.

The Food

My highlights were the mushroom arancine balls, and the chocolate hazelnut cheesecake, which was seriously decadent. I couldn’t have been happier with my choices this lunchtime.

If you’re looking to spend an afternoon or an evening relaxing with friends or family, then I would highly recommend Gino D’Acampo.
