There was a big night of amateur boxing at Queenswood social club in Kirkstall last month. It featured 14 high quality amateur bouts with various clubs from around Yorkshire represented.
For 17 year old Mason Allawa of Skipton however this represented the biggest night of his boxing life as he was fighting for the Yorkshire Challenge Belt (75kg). The current champion and belt holder, Carter Beal, representing Wath ABC, faced the challenger Mason, representing Eastburn ABC. This was to be a great Yorkshire boxing match.
The challenger started very strongly in the first of the three, two-minute rounds against a very game and resolute opponent displaying a strong jab with sporadic flurries of combinations and was repeatedly landing power shots piercing Beals defence. Beal however stood firm and replied landing shots of his own.

In the second round Allawa came on strong looking by far the stronger of the two. After Beal took a standing count midway through the round the referee waved off the contest crowning Allawa the new Yorkshire Challenge Belt holder.
This win was the culmination of years of hard work from Mason Allawa and he now hopes to move forward from Yorkshire boxing, and box in national championships in the future.

Mason started boxing when he was nine years old and was inspired to go on and become a champion after his dad took him to train with Amir Khan at his gym in Bolton. It has always been Masons dream to box at the Olympics and to then turn professional and aim for world title belts. Since then Mason has trained with many esteemed boxing figures including Joe Calzaghe, Roy Jones Jr, George Groves and has dreams of emulating some of their many successes and accolades. He has trained at Eastburn Boxing Club for the last four years and gives huge credit to his coaches influence in his career to date.
Mason believes this Yorkshire Challenge Belt is the first step on a long road to glory and is fully committed to the journey. Mason trains twice a day six days a week and even went on a six mile run on Christmas Day after his Christmas dinner!
Mason is currently looking for sponsors who will feature on his kit, as well as on his prominent social media presence. Any businesses that would like to support him on the next stage of his boxing journey. please contact [email protected].
