I headed to Farmer Copleys in Pontefract for my first-ever pumpkin-picking experience, and let’s just say… it did not disappoint!
On 26th September, Farmer Copleys opened its doors to the public for its pumpkin-picking season ahead of Halloween. There was so much to see and do, with a wide variety of games, food stalls, interactive activities, performances, rides and plenty more.
Food, Food and More Food

I arrived around lunchtime, so naturally, my first stop had to be the food vendors!
There was a huge variety of options available, from hot dogs and gyros to loaded fries and more. I decided to go for a gyro, which was reasonably priced and, most importantly, absolutely delicious. It definitely didn’t disappoint!
After eating, we headed over to the bar, which offered a selection of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. There was also a large undercover seating area, making it the perfect spot to sit back, relax and enjoy your food and drinks.
Rides, Marshmallows and a Little Bit of Adrenaline

Once we’d finished our food, we headed off to explore the rest of the park.
We came across a small toasting station, and it was safe to say we couldn’t resist! We grabbed some marshmallows and toasted them over an open fire, a simple activity, but definitely one of those moments that added to the whole autumnal atmosphere.
After eating our marshmallows, it was time for a bit more excitement. We headed onto the bumper cars, followed by the observation tower. There was also a carousel, helter-skelter and swing ride available, so there really was something for everyone.
After getting our fill of the rides and adrenaline, we jumped on the tractor ride, which took us around the pumpkin field.
Pumpkin Picking

Following the tractor ride, it was time for the main event… pumpkin picking!
There was a huge selection of pumpkins to choose from, with different sizes available from small all the way up to jumbo. The pumpkins were priced separately depending on their size, meaning you could pick exactly what suited you.
You literally wander around and choose your own pumpkins, they can be heavy so Farmer Copleys has wheelbarrows available to rent, which definitely come in handy when carrying your pumpkins around!
Plenty of Photo Opportunities
As well as the activities, rides, food and pumpkin picking, there were loads of photo opportunities throughout the site.
There were also characters to interact with, making it a really fun experience and giving the whole place a great atmosphere. Everywhere you looked, there was something going on, and it created a really enjoyable Halloween-themed vibe.

Would I Recommend Farmer Copleys?
Absolutely!
As someone who had never been pumpkin picking before, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but Farmer Copleys made it a really enjoyable day out. From the food and rides to the pumpkin field and interactive activities, there was plenty to keep us entertained.
So, if you’re looking for a fun autumnal day out in West Yorkshire, make sure you check out Farmer Copleys. It has everything you could want from a pumpkin-picking experience and plenty more besides!
Pumpkins, food, rides, marshmallows and Halloween fun … what’s not to love?
Pumpkin Festival is open until 1st November.
