Christmas is a time for celebrating with loved ones, indulging in fantastic feasts and getting cosy in your fairy-lit home over the holidays. And there’s often just as much fun in the preparations as there is in the day itself such as planning a Christmas meat order, organising your décor and deciding on Christmas family games.
But if you’ve spent the last few festive seasons getting caught up in the same old traditions, why not do something different and make this year a memorable and magical Christmas?
While it can be challenging to get out of your comfort zone when it comes to December plans, there’s something refreshing about deviating from the norm and creating new traditions. And if you’re struggling to think of fresh ideas, take a look at our top four suggestions:
Visit somewhere new

Many families love spending Christmas at home, getting cosy around the fire and stacking presents under the tree. But how about enjoying the festivities somewhere new this year? You could hire out a countryside holiday home, relax in a log cabin or take the whole family to a seaside cottage. Consider spending a magical Christmas Day at the beach, in the hot tub or on a long walk and make some new memories with your loved ones.
Take the opportunity to explore a different location and experience nature at a time of year you wouldn’t normally go away.
Order in

Or have dinner out. Preparing Christmas dinner can be one of the most stressful events at this time of year, especially if you have a large family. Consider hosting an alternative Christmas Day and order food straight to your door. Another option is to limit the clearing up completely and head out for a pre-booked meal at your favourite restaurant.
Changing up your dinner routine on the big day will prevent any stress relating to finding and cooking the perfect turkey, dietary requirements or lack of food.
Start a new Christmas tradition

Instead of organising the same festive activities on autopilot, switch things up and start a new tradition this year. Choose a different Christmas Eve family film, try a new food for breakfast on the day itself or invite friends round for a relaxing Boxing Day gathering.
If you have children, get them involved in creating new traditions, whether that’s making a wreath for the front door, singing carols with your neighbours in the local church or baking Christmas cookies.
Give back to your community

Christmas is all about sharing so why not give back to your community this year and get involved with a charity? Consider helping out at a local food bank, collecting toys for a children’s Christmas appeal or assisting with nearby events.
However you decide to create new traditions, remember to take the time to relax and take stock with your loved ones.
