Whether you believe in magic, intrigued by folklore and history or even just a fan of Mayfair Witches, Wicked, The Witches or The Craft (or for some of us like me Charmed, Bewitched the original series, Witches of Eastwick, Bedknobs and Broomsticks), I want to introduce you to the latest edition to The Camden Watch Company’s No.27 range – the Witchcraft Edition.
Created and designed by British independent designers Anneke Short & Jerome Robert, founders of The Camden Watch Company, this new timepiece (more information below) centres around legends of witches in Camden, London as well as the mystery of wiccan practices and symbols (symbols protecting a home from evil). British independent brand / designers, The Camden Watch Company, founded by wife and husband team Anneke Short and Jerome Robert are adding a new timepiece to their No.27 range, the unisex Witchcraft Edition.
Camden’s Witchcraft Past
While Camden may be famous for its music heritage (from punk to Britpop to Winehouse) and markets but dig a bit deeper and one will find it’s always had a touch of the mystical about it. In fact, in the 16th and 17th centuries when Camden was still an outskirt of London, stories of witches and wise women were common. Most likely these were healer or fortune-tellers, but people dabbled in herbal remedies and charms at a time when doctors were scarce. To many they are a blessing, to others a cause of suspicion. Camden, with its mix of grit and eccentricity, was the perfect stage for their legends.

The most well-known and notorious was Jinney Bingham (aka Jinny and later Jenny), better known as Mother Red Cap. She lived in a cottage where The World’s End pub now stands and quickly gained a fearsome reputation after several of her lovers mysteriously disappeared. Neighbours claimed they heard strange noise and saw eerie lights coming from home and was tried for witchcraft though never convicted (note both her parents were hung for practising black magic). With her trademark red hood, she became a folk figure both feared and respected. When she died, locals said her ghost lingered and the tavern later built on the spot proudly took her name (it didn’t become The World’s End until 1985). (Fun fact, British musician Frank Turner has even pinned a song to Jinney – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQQ7sdiRrIE)
Camden’s witchy lore doesn’t end there as stories speak of another figure, Mother Black Cap – a fortune-teller or healer who may have been a rival to Mother Red Cap, or perhaps just another name for the same woman. Folklore tends to blur the lines, but whether there were two witches or one, their presence left a lasting mark on Camden’s identity.
About The Camden Watch Company No.27 Witchcraft Edition

Anneke Short, Co-Founder and Designer of The Camden Watch Company says: “The background of Camden’s magical past became the cornerstone of an idea: what if we designed a watch filled with symbolism and meaning, a kind of talisman made for daily wear? So we set about researching, digging through tomes and old books, uncovering patterns and motifs we could bring to life. Eventually, we landed on the idea of witch marks, focusing in particular on the daisy wheel – a protective symbol once carved into walls to trap evil spirits within its endless lines. To this we added crescent moons at 3 and 9, forming the Triple Goddess. It’s a symbol rich with meaning, most commonly interpreted today as the Maiden, Mother, and Crone – representing life, death, and rebirth; new beginnings, nurturing, and wisdom.”

The Camden Watch Company No.27 Witchcraft Edition
Based on centuries of British folklore, weaving symbols of protection and mysticism into every detail at the heart of this timepiece lies a daisy wheel, an ancient apotropaic marking once carved into buildings to ward off evil. Flanked on either side by crescent moons, it forms the Triple Goddess — a symbol of life, death, and rebirth, and our enduring bond with nature.
On the case back, another daisy wheel appears beside the words: “An ye harm none, do what ye will.” A reminder to live freely, without causing harm – and to always carry a little magic on your wrist.
