Seven Styles On Trend for Spring

March sees the return of Spring, transitioning our wardrobes from coats and boots to lighter pieces as the weather dictates. 2024 is already shaping up to be an interesting year for fashion trends, as we see the phase out of the clean girl aesthetic and swap ‘quiet luxury’ for ‘mob wife’ in our collections.

Fashion expert and Assistant Press Manager at premium lifestyle brand Fairfax & Favor, Charlie Cooke, shares her views on the key on trend for spring looks. Take a look:

“Cowgirl chic”

Set to be the biggest trend this Spring, cowgirl looks have slowly been working their way into daily attire since the success of Beyonce’s Renaissance tour last year. Whilst Beyonce brought more disco glamour to the trend, SS24 sees a return to classic fabrics and shades. Think 1970s pieces paired with classic denim. Fringing will be everywhere – adorning jackets, coats and shoes to create statement looks. Classic suede pieces in tan or dark brown are go-tos to nails this trend in a simplistic way.

“Mob wife”

This trend has taken social media by storm and shows little signs of slowing as we head into SS24. Animal print has been seen on the catwalks of fashion weeks for SS24, showing how you can transition your mob wife looks from Winter to Spring with a simple shift in pieces. Leopard print in particular looks set to be a popular print for the season. I recommend wearing one animal print piece with some capsule classics to create a balanced look and avoid looking too fancy dress. A simple scarf or bias cut skirt in animal print is a perfect way to achieve the trend in your daily attire.

“1990s oversized power dressing”

Another trend making its way onto the runways is the return of oversized suits, reviving silhouettes befitting of the 1990s. We’ve seen power suits making a comeback in recent years, this Spring sees exaggeration of both suit jackets and trousers. To nail this trend try pairing slouch fit, high-waisted trousers with a clean white shirt or t-shirt. It’s important to balance your proportions, especially if you are shorter, so be sure to mix fitted pieces in with these oversized items for cohesion. To fully nod to past trends opt for pinstripes, which are also having a moment currently.

“Ultra feminine”

Broderie style dresses always see a slight incline in the warmer seasons but this style is getting a bigger boost than usual for 2024. In line with this, catwalks are seeing more organza pieces for the season ahead, taking on lightweight compositions for ideal transitional Spring wear. These styles are taking on exaggerated feminine silhouettes, as trends veer more to the traditionally ‘girly’ aesthetic. A-line dresses and pieces which complement the female form are seeing a resurgence. To style this trend in a more understated way, opt for tiered skirts with a hint of organza or A-line dresses with broderie accenting.

“Academia-core”

This trend has been growing since January 2024 and takes on new life as the seasons change. Think preppy-chic: blazers paired with basics or pleated skirts styled in a modern and mature way. V-neck knitwear has been popular through the colder months but this Spring sees crisp shirts and classic derby shoes take centre stage. To elevate this look to a more premium aesthetic, look for blazers with crest logos in classic colours – such as burgundy or navy. Pair preppy pieces with capsule pieces like jeans to balance out your look and avoid looking too schoolgirl.

“Little white dress”

All white looks have been featured across several catwalk collections for S224, providing a clean and fresh aesthetic to adopt for the new season. Quality is key when purchasing an all white piece, as higher quality pieces will wash better and maintain their fresh white hue for longer. Midi and maxi dresses in all white are popular for SS24, we are seeing a return of fuller skirts and draping effects which lead to softer looking outfits, aligning with the above mentioned leaning back to feminine silhouettes and fabrics.

“Statement trench coats”

The trench coat has been a staple for many fashion-enthusiasts throughout their seasonal wardrobes and this year sees the trench get a prominent feature across fashion shows. There is no reinvention of the wheel with the return of the trench this season, we are seeing popularity in classic styles and tan hues as key on trend for spring styling. A high collar and a cinching tie-waist is the go-to trench of the season, providing enhancement of your figure in a flattering and chic way. Not only a great piece to invest in that will see you through changing trends, the trench also works perfectly for styling changeable weather. This is a must-have for your transitional wardrobe.”
