Founded by sisters Zö and Maz Christien, Màzo Candles London (pronounced Mar-zo) launched in 2022 and is a London-based, family-run, all-natural candle house. Inspired by nature itself, Màzo Candles are vegan, sustainably sourced, and of superior quality. Màzo candles are blended using only 100% natural biodegradable wax, with carefully balanced layers of natural essential oils. Infused with top, middle and base notes, the fragrance evolves throughout the burn to create four different and completely natural and beautiful aromas.

Each hand-poured candle is stemmed with pure cotton wicks and housed in a glass cube encased in a stylish, botanical-inspired, polished metal cradle. The unmistakable design synergises with the natural beauty of the wax glow, while multi wicking allows the candle to burn hotter and ensures the wax melts edge to edge.
The candles’ fragrant essential oils are all traceable to individual farmers who are paid a fair price for their products. These luxurious candles are specially designed to deliver a beautiful flickering flame, a slow and long-lasting burn, and which emits no toxins, residue or black smokiness once extinguished.
The Màzo story
Zö Christien previously worked in TV set design, TV presenting and as managing director to several businesses. Maz enjoyed a successful career as a make-up artist and her love of animals led her to senior management in the veterinary industry. In 2014, Maz Christien was diagnosed with MS (Multiple Sclerosis) and stress was starting to really take its toll on her health. Early 2021 brought a long-awaited change of direction and she began to think about giving herself time for self-healing, kindness and calm.
Whilst driving home one evening, it suddenly struck Zö that they should learn how to make candles as they had always loved candles, the flicker of the flame, the warm glow and the feeling from a familiar scent. The sisters promptly signed up to a course to learn the craft and science of candle making. From this day, there was not a moment of doubt that candle making was their future and Màzo Candles London was ignited.
The duo oversaw every element of the Màzo Candles creation from the wax blend which was tried and tested again and again until the ultimate hot and cold scent throw was at its optimum. The essential oils chosen were carefully layered until they could close their eyes and feel their favourite moment of calm they were looking to recreate. “It is this part of the scent design which fascinated us the most,” explains Maz Christien.
“Working together to create carefully balanced blends so your Màzo Candle emits unique scents both as hot throw (when lit) and cold throw (unlit) to evoke exactly the same memory and feeling, but knowing you aren’t receiving the scent in exactly the same way, is part of what makes Màzo Candles London so unique. It’s this inimitable and innovative process which gives such captivating depth and breadth to the scents,” says Zö Christien.
Four scents are available in the Màzo Candles London range, including:
Mystic – a calming blend of citrus notes, Bergamot and Jasmine combined with soft woody oils, Myrrh and tobacco, with a top note carrying the warmth of Patchouli. This enticing scent will fill a room with a cosy, comforting atmosphere. RRP £67 – 340.
‘Q’ – a captivating and relaxing blend of essential oils, Bergamot and Fig, combined with Egyptian Jasmine and the sweet warmth of Oud and pure Frankincense. RRP £72 – £365.
Pink – a fresh and zingy blend of Pink Grapefruit and Elemi to energize the senses, together with a sweet-spicy blend of Pink Peppercorn and Marjoram. With the addition of floral honey notes of Pink Rose, this candle offers a relaxing fragrance lifted by the balsamic aroma of warm Cedarwood. RRP £72 – £365.
Chaparral – a herbal blend of fresh, zesty guava and Eucalyptus to refresh the spirit, softened by the floral notes of Niaouli and the sensual aroma of Frangipani. Purify the air with underlying notes of woody evergreen. RRP £67 – £340.
All of Màzo’s candles are wrapped in recyclable packaging. They contain no paraffins, artificial chemicals or synthetic fragrance enhancers, making them both child and pet friendly. Each scent is available as two wicks, four wick and five wick candles.
