The Debbie Gin Sling Cocktail

The Debbie Gin Sling by  @baldchefnick

A refreshingly healthy yet alcoholic Gin Sling cocktail made up for my wife Debbie.

Ok, I hear you asking, “Really is alcohol healthy?” well gin taken in reasonable doses (not the whole bottle!) is in fact less fattening than most alcoholic drinks and contains antioxidants, which can help with hay fever, and you get less of a hangover drinking it!

Serves 4-6

The pairing of fresh lemons aromatic basil leaf and gin with beautiful botanicals, mixed with the popping bubbles of a good tonic water and ice are simply sublime.

You will need:

A Large Jug

A Hand Juicer

Ingredients:

2 Lemons

A Handful of Fresh Basil

1 Litre of Tonic Water

Gin (a nice botanical variety – unflavoured)

Ice Cubes

The Method:

  1. Slice one lemon and pop into your jug.
  2. Cut second lemon in half and juice, then put through a strainer and into your jug.
  3. Pluck your basil leaves and drop in.
  4. Pour in your tonic and infuse for 10 minutes.
  • Ice cubes into your glass
  • 1-2 Shots of Gin (two is perfect)
  • Pour your infusion from jug to glass
  • Top off with a sprig of basil and a lemon slice and enjoy your Gin Sling cocktail!

@baldchefnick tips n tricks

Ice your glasses first putting ice in the glass then discard before your pour your drink. Add fresh ice, it really makes a difference. Use the best botanical gin you can get. I love Sicilian lemons but they can be big so adjust and to taste, you may only need one large lemon halved, sliced and juiced. If you like it sweeter add a tea spoon of sugar. Always use a sharp knife.
