The team at The New Inn at Appletreewick will be heading to the finals of this year’s Deliciously Yorkshire awards, where they have been shortlisted in two categories.
Alexa and Chris Ives who took on the New Inn, their local pub, are delighted that their work in refreshing the inn’s offering has impressed the visiting judges for this year’s Best New Business category in the Regional Food Awards. In turn, pioneering chef Mikael Paylor has been recognised for the Rising Star award.
For 21 years, the Deliciously Yorkshire organisation has been supporting the Yorkshire food and drink community by championing tradition, encouraging innovation and celebrating great taste. Their annual awards are the biggest of their kind in the north of England and this year attracted a record number of entries from food and drink businesses throughout Yorkshire and the Humber.

The Regional Food Awards award ceremony, hosted by food and drink broadcaster and champion Nigel Barden, will be held in Harrogate on Tuesday 4th November.
Alexa said “We are thrilled to have been shortlisted for Best New Business in these awards and that Mike’s talent and innovation in the kitchen has also been identified by the judges. We are all very much looking forward to the award ceremony next month and have all our fingers crossed for that!”
The Team

Alexa, Chris and chef Mikael are all keen to ‘keep it real’ and champion the New Inn as a traditional local pub without the fine dining cliché. Sunday lunch is already going down a storm, served here with a big difference; presented on massive sharing platters for a relaxed family feast atmosphere which is proving hugely popular. Chris explains “People like the informality of being able to help themselves to as much or as little as they like from beautiful vintage serving plates; somehow it evokes the atmosphere of traditional Sunday roasts from childhood, I guess.”

The New Inn offers six en-suite guest bedrooms, most with a knock-out view of the stunning Wharfedale scenery and all getting spruced up under Alexa’s critical eye. The pub overlooks the Dales Way as it follows the River Wharfe between Burnsall and Bolton Abbey, which makes it a ‘365’ destination for walkers. Alexa explains “Whether people are hardened walkers wanting to stay and ‘do’ this section of the Dales Way or day visitors who just want an idyllic flat riverside walk before enjoying a memorable meal, we make sure the New Inn provides the hospitality to match.”
