8 Tips to Spend Less Time Managing Your Business Tech

Technology is supposed to make your life easier – it is supposed to make all our lives easier –  so if you find that you are spending more of your time managing the tech in your business than it is saving you in efficiencies, then something has to give.

That is why I’m here to share some tried-and-true tips to help you spend less time managing your business tech and more time doing… well, anything else your business needs.

1. Embrace IT Support Services: Your Techy Knights in Shining Armour

First up, a good IT support service. They’re the ones you want on your side in the world of business tech. Think of them as your techy knights in shining armour, riding in to save you from the dragon of IT despair. Outsourcing your IT woes to professionals not only frees up your time but also spares you from the existential crisis that comes with trying to understand why your printer is suddenly sentient. They handle the updates, the upgrades, and the “why is this thing beeping” queries, leaving you to focus on your empire.

2. Automation: The Magic Wand of the Business World

If technology were a magic show, automation would be the grand finale. Automate everything you can, from invoicing and payroll to email responses and social media posts. There are tools out there that can make your coffee and tell you a joke while doing it (okay, maybe not quite, but we’re getting there). The point is, if a task doesn’t require your unique human touch, automate it. It’s like having a digital personal assistant who doesn’t take coffee breaks.

3. Cloud Services: Your Tech’s Home Away From Home

Gone are the days of hoarding data on physical servers that take up half your office space. Welcome to the cloud, where your data lives happily in the digital stratosphere. Using cloud services means you can access your data from anywhere, anytime, without having to wrestle with server maintenance. It’s like Airbnb for your data – less hassle, more flexibility.

4. Regular Tech Audits: A Little Like Spring Cleaning

Schedule regular tech audits to review what’s working and what’s been sitting unused for eons. It’s a bit like spring cleaning, but for your tech. This helps you streamline your tools and ensures you’re not paying for software that’s just gathering digital dust. Plus, it’s satisfying in a “look how organised I am” kind of way.

5. Invest in Training: Teach a Man to Fish, and He’ll Fix His Own Email

Investing in training for yourself and your team can pay dividends. Understanding the basics of your business tech means you’re less likely to be bamboozled by simple issues. Plus, it empowers your team to solve minor problems, so you’re not the go-to person every time a computer decides to be rebellious. It’s the old teach a man to fish philosophy, but with less fish and more emails.

6. Keep it Simple: Because Life’s Complicated Enough

Simplicity is key. Don’t get lured into using overly complex tech just because it has more bells and whistles than a carnival parade. Choose user-friendly, straightforward technology that does what you need without requiring a PhD to operate. Remember, the goal is to save time, not add a new hobby in figuring out software.

7. Delegate Like a Boss: Because You Are One

If you have a team, then why wouldn’t you just…y’know use it? Delegate tech-related tasks to those who are more tech-savvy or show an interest in learning the ropes and you’ve immediately freed up your own time. Not only does it lighten your load, but it also helps your team members grow and develop new skills. Win-win for the win!

8. Stay Updated: Annoying but Necessary

Keep your software up to date all the time, no matter what. Yes, updates can be as annoying as someone talking in the cinema, especially when they take an age to install, but they’re crucial for security and efficiency. So, you are most definitely going to want to set aside time for regular updates, or better yet, enable automatic updates where possible. It’s like feeding your tech a healthy diet so it can grow strong and protect itself from viruses.

With these tips, you can spend less time managing your business tech and more time working on the next big product idea, managing your staff, or heaven forbid, even enjoying the fruits of your labour because tech should add time, not take it away.
