The Perfect Country Getaway at The Bradley Hare

As the leaves turn, so do our heads towards cosy, country getaways. Let’s face it, nobody does autumn quite like the countryside and tucked away in the rolling hills of Wiltshire is The Bradley Hare.

To call this B&B a pub would be a disservice. It is a ‘pub’ and restaurant with rooms but done really, really well. Contemporary arts sit alongside classic country styling giving a very deliberate cool but cosy vibe. It’s the perfect country getaway.

Back in the 90’s, Babington House was the Soho House members country getaway of choice and this place exudes the same kind of attitude. It came as no surprise that the manager and many of the staff are ex Babington House, and I personally loved the styling.

Sitting in between Stourhead House and Gardens and Longleat you are spoilt for choice of places to go for scenic walks. These National Trust sites are absolutely stunning this time of year and you will drive through picture postcard villages such as Mere to get to them.

You really need to drive here, the train station is over 30 minutes away and there isn’t much on the doorstep apart from beautiful walks. They kindly provide a QR code in your rooms so that you can easily find local nature trails.

The onsite restaurant is outstanding. A short menu of locally sourced ingredients providing plates of food you really want to eat. The whipped cod roe with radish was sensationally creamy and kicked off the meal on the right note. Even the side of ‘greens’ was charred Hispi Cabbage with Salsa Verde. They are big on flavours here.

The venison was blushing and my cod was thick, glistening in the candlelight. It paired brilliantly with deep friend new potatoes with alioli. I told you, big flavours done well. We loved it.

It was also really busy for a Wednesday night in the sticks which is always a good sign

The culinary treats continued at breakfast with home-made granola and real croissants, you know the crisp on the outside, buttery on inside kind and again a short but well executed hot menu. Great quality produce served with relaxed aplomb.

I slept so well here. At first the bed looked a little small, and even by the road with the window open it was the quiet, peaceful rest you would like from a cosy country getaway.
