The Relais Henley offers a classy experience of understated glamour.
Sat overlooking the iconic bridge in Henley this independent boutique hotel underwent a £3 million refurbishment just 3 years ago.
The 16th century coaching house is no stranger to guests. It is reported that King Charles I once lay his head here and to this day his coat of arms is displayed in one of the rooms.
What The Relais has successfully done is capture its history, location and personality throughout the rooms in the hotel. From the nautical, calming striped carpets in the bedrooms screaming Boat Race Blazers, to the shiny boat in the aptly named Clipper restaurant, the boating theme is there yet not gimmicky in the slightest and gives you a lovely sense of where you are.

It is hard to leave the rooms, the super soft sheets, the view over the river, the claw foot roll top bath which fills in minutes (I never thought of this as a feature but it is now). It all works together to create a very relaxing space.

For those who like to stretch their legs, you can walk out of the picturesque courtyard and you are literally on the river. I highly recommend taking a boat trip if only to take a peek at some of the amazing properties along this affluent stretch of the Thames. It is truly breathtaking.

If you prefer to get your steps in, you are also situated at the foot of the Chiltern Hills with gorgeous walks a plenty.
Despite being a short drive from Marlow with its renowned Michelin starred restaurants, I would highly recommend dining in the on-site restaurant The Clipper. What a beautiful experience aided by the super friendly service and possibly the best mussels I have ever tasted.
The menu features popular classics with subtle twists to bring extra flavours. The Black Sesame Ice Cream with Lemon Tart was sensational and it was lovely to be able to move between sitting inside to outside with ease.

All of the staff seem to love working here and their passion and pride in the establishment shines through making you feel even more special for being here.
Being just an hour from London makes Henley such a great staycation destination and this hotel offers Afternoon Tea’s in the stunning oriental style lounge, a DJ on the terrace for the weekend vibes combined with a picturesque location to die for.
I highly recommend.
