Domaine Evremond Classic Cuvée Edition I: A Year in Milestones

One year after its release, Domaine Evremond’s Classic Cuvée Edition I has established itself as one of the most significant debuts in English sparkling wine.

Domaine Evremond’s Classic Cuvée Edition I is the first wine to emerge from the joint venture between Champagne Taittinger and its UK importer, Hatch Mansfield. Established in 2015, the team spent a decade meticulously preparing before launching this first wine. For the Taittinger technical team – Christelle Rinville in the vineyard and Alexandre Ponnavoy in the cellar – the project meant setting aside established instincts and learning a new terroir from scratch: a maritime climate, flint-rich chalk soils, and the greatest sunshine hours of all UK counties. Their goal: to allow the identity of the Classic Cuvée to emerge from the land.

The Edition I is made from 55% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Meunier, with 80% from the 2020 harvest and 20% reserve wines from 2019. It spent three years on the lees before disgorgement, following the traditional method throughout, with all bottling carried out on site.

This inaugural release, described by Vinous’s Anne Krehbiel MW as “an impressive and elegant debut,” has seen critical and commercial success in the UK. Edition I is listed by Majestic, Berry Bros & Rudd, and Lay & Wheeler, among others, and major restaurant and hotel groups.

The wine has also been served at two of the country’s most significant recent events: the state banquet honouring French President Emmanuel Macron and King Charles III, and the installation of the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dame Sarah Elisabeth Mullally. Further afield, it is now exported to 18 markets, including Hong Kong, Norway, and Brazil, demonstrating the international appetite for English sparkling wine.

“This project has been ten years the making,” says India McGrath, Director of Sales, Marketing & Communications and daughter of co-founder, Patrick McGrath MW. “And yet with Edition I, we are just at the start of Domaine Evremond’s journey.” Classic Cuvée Edition II is due for release in late summer.
