The Shankly Hotel in Liverpool is a football fan’s ultimate dream stay, especially if you also happen to be a Liverpool fan. Let’s face it; if there was ever going to be a hotel in this great man’s name and memory, it could only be in Liverpool.

The Shankly Hotel is a tribute to one of football’s greatest managers: Bill Shankly. Offering spacious rooms, a trendy bar and restaurant and unseen memorabilia, if this ticks your boxes you will never want to leave.

The Shankly Hotel

Every part of this unique hotel is dedicated in some way to Bill; from his early life in pictures in The Bastion Bar and Restaurant where you can delve into the iconic personal and professional life of Bill Shankly, as you discover some of the football manager’s most treasured memorabilia which is displayed throughout this unique restaurant. It is OTT yes, but you can’t help but soak up the atmosphere and thanks to clever interior design in this former council building, it is possible to forget the football – just for a second…

Lime Street station, the Liverpool One shopping complex and Mathew Street – site of the Cavern and some of the city’s traditional pubs are all a short walk away. Plus, the docks are only a 15 minute walk, so it’s within easy reach to be in the thick of things.

The Bastion Bar and Restaurant offers up a contemporary atmosphere to enjoy a bite to eat. We were didning from the inclusive menu which offers up simple but tasty dishes cooked well. We feasted on tempura king prawns and homemade Scoth egg to start, followed braised lamb shoulder with garlic creamed potatoes and  herb crusted cod loin with smoked Polish sausage. Both dishes were plentiful and tasty.

The Bastion Bar is also a hub of social activity with football lovers, couples and families gathering for a drink and a catch up. There’s an extensive cocktail menu, plus a large selection of spirits, wines and draft beers, everyone is catered for and on match days, you enjoy an electric atmosphere and catch all the action from a number of large flat screen TV’s. Or sit back, relax and enjoy some live music from some of the city’s most talented performers.

If you’re looking for a little sophistication, indulge in a traditional afternoon tea with your loved ones.

Tuck into delicious finger sandwiches, sweet treats, delicate cakes and perfectly baked scones, alongside your choice of tea and coffee, or a luxurious glass of fizz. There’s also a great Sunday Lunch menu.

The bedrooms here are very luxurious and each has a large Shankly crest on the wall, in act there’s a good choice of luxury rooms and studios to choose from. The rooms are very spacious and beautifully designed and decorated, some even have a Jacuzzi bath.

This is also a very popular for weddings and the Garden of Eden is the ultimate rooftop wedding venue. Boasting unrestricted views across the city of Liverpool, this venue offers the most stunning backdrop to your big day. In fact it will take your breath away.

Housed in a glass box, you’ll have unrestricted views of Liverpool’s most iconic landmarks, including the Three Graces, Pier Head and, of course, the Liver Building.

Garden of Eden is located on the top floor of the stunning Shankly Hotel and consists of a beautiful 360-degree glass exterior, outdoor terrace area and two private bars for the ultimate wedding venue. What more could you ask for?

But at the end of the day, The Shankly is the ultimate tribute to Bill who is highly regarded as one of the greatest football managers in history, as his illustrious career resulted in significant professional achievements. You can view everything from Bill’s original LFC contract, his telegram from Neil Armstrong, the key to The Shankly Gates and his This Is Your Life book. No place on Earth offers such a unique look at the legendary manager’s career.

Memorabilia can be viewed within the floor, walls and ceiling. There is also a unique area within the hotel reception which has been set aside as a place to relax and enjoy some of the letters penned by Shankly during his managerial career and then later in life as a sports pundit alongside the typewriter he used for his correspondence, all kindly donated by the Shankly family.

We really enjoyed our stay, it is such a unique experience and in our opinion one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at for the ultimate wedding venue or stag and hen group. The Shankly Hotel paired with the nightlife and shopping of Liverpool is the perfect combination for fun, fun, fun!
