Rookery Hall

Set in 38 acres of grounds, Rookery Hall Hotel & Spa in Nantwich, Cheshire is the perfect place to enjoy a treatment, spa day or as in our case – a mini break! Its award winning spa boasts a host of spa and leisure facilities making it an idyllic sanctuary.

An ideal break away for me combines luxury with laziness. I want to drive less than two hours from home and arrive somewhere fantastic, ready to relax. As my girlfriend and wound our way through the Cheshire countryside on a Thursday afternoon in June, I began to look forward to our overnight spa break at Rookery Hall, a unique country house which commands stunning views of the Cheshire countyrside from beautifully manicured gardens.

We were welcomed warmly and shown to a beautiful room overlooking the front of the house and out onto gardens dotted with geese and the odd white tail of a bunny. The room was classically styled with plush soft furnishings and a large bathroom complete with two rather luxurious fluffy white robes. There is nothing better than relaxing with a pal, with a glass of bubbles so we donned the robes and enjoyed some downtime before heading to the spa.

The spa and leisure club is housed in a separate building – an old stable block, a short walk from the main hotel. We trotted across in our robes which I was a little self conscious about at first but since nobody batted an eyelid I presumed it was the done thing! The spa reception is beautifully aromatic with scented candles and flowers. Our host introduced us to the cafe  area which had more of a bistro style and was very inviting. We enjoyed a fruit tea whilst hearing about the various treatments and facilities on offer.

Rookery Hall Swimming PoolThis well equipped spa has a glass roofed heated pool – the pool is really quite large (17 metres) so if you fancy a few lengths whilst enjoying the elements – it’s perfect. We loved the hydrotherapy pool, crystal steam room and sauna – very relaxing. However, if you fancy something more energetic the gym is unbelievably well equipped with the very latest in technology.

We, however, fancied something a little less taxing and so we opted for an Elemis Hot Mineral Body Boost. This unique treatment stimulates every cell in the body, helping alleviate muscular pain and remove toxins. A revolutionary, minerally-charged experience of skin conditioning, metabolic balancing and energising wellness. There are plenty of treatments available to choose from, from Elemis, all are expertly delivered by well trained therapists and are certainly worth the treat! Our treatment was completely relaxing and certainly relieved any everyday stresses. I would highly recommend it! We certainly felt rejuvenated and ready for the evening ahead.

After getting ready leisurely in our room with a glass of wine, we made our way to the restaurant, renowned for its 2AA Rosettes. As it was a glorious evening we made the most of the views by enjoying an aperitif in the garden overlooking the lawns where a group were enjoying pre prom night photographs against the stunning backdrop. The location of this venue is simply stunning and I imagine it would make a magnificent backdrop for a Wedding.

The restaurant is tastefully designed with views out onto the grounds. Fine dining is at the heart of the Rookery Hall experience as we were to discover. Plenty of local produce are used across the menu and there are some tempting offerings from the Pig’s head, cheek, tongue,  and crispy skin with sage & onion croquette,  and medjool date puree to the Cheshire cheese souffle which sounds divine! However I opted for the Wild Tuna Cappaccio with Thai style salad with garlic, chilli and lime salsa. This zingy starter was delicious with the flavours marrying perfectly. My guest chose the Kind Scallop with langoustine basque, fennel and spiced parsnip which tasted as fantastic as it looked!

For mains I opted for the beetroot risotto, with roquefort begneit and baby watercress salad. My absolute adoration of both beetroot and blue cheese were not stunted in this dish. It was wonderfully tasty and I enjoyed every morcel. We also devoured the Fillet of beef, rich, well seasoned steak, cooked perfectly to my guests liking, a creamy peppercorn sauce served on the side with just the right amount of bite. This restaurant serves delectable food in clasical surroundings with faultless service, I would dine again here in a heartbeat. Having left no room for puddings unfortunately, we retired to our luxury abode for the evening and both slept like logs after a most relaxing and enjoyable day.

After a quick dip in the pool and a hearty full English breakfast served with the same finesse as our evening meal, my guest and I both agreed our time at Rookery Hall had passed way too quickly and we would both be reluctant to leave. This would make the perfect weekend break, romantic night away, sophisticated hen party or just a day to relax and enjoy a little luxury. Highly recommended – well the Beckhams did announce their engagement at this hotel, enough said.
