The H&N team found luxury in Leyburn on a fabulous break  with Ingrid Flute Holiday Cottages….

We were so excited to be invited as a team to visit Feathered Nest , and experience some luxury in Leyburn in a beautifully appointed holiday house, located in Harmby just outside the popular market town of Leyburn in beautiful Wensleydale. We were invited through Ingrid Fluke’s Yorkshire Holiday Cottages and they chose Feathered Nest as this is one of their newest and most luxurious properties in their ‘Niche Retreats Collection’.

Ingrid Flute - Feathered Nest LeyburnWe were in absolute awe as we arrived at this spacious detached luxury property which sleeps six, it has been furnished and equipped to the highest specification, as we were to find out. On arrival we all parked in the huge drive and made our way through the gate to the most spectacular designer garden, complete with BBQ, hot tub (courtesy of Bedale Bubbles), luxury garden furniture including an al fresco dining Ingrid Flute - Feathered Nest Leyburnarea and sun loungers on the ground level, and an elevated sun terrace with more garden furniture and the most beautiful view of the surrounding countryside. This was turning out to be the perfect escape and we hadn’t gone inside yet!

The stunning interior was even more impressive, combining a mixture of contemporary and traditional style with panoramic views over to Middleham from the front windows, conservatory and balcony. We were more impressed at every turn. Luckily it was wall to wall sunshine and very hot on the Friday we arrived, so we didn’t need the underfloor heating!

Ingrid Flute - Feathered Nest LeyburnWe were greeted by the owners, Clare and Andrew Partridge who live next door; Andrew is a financial advisor and Clare a retired restauranteur. The property was previously owned by Clare’s parents and once unoccupied, it seemed an obvious decision to renovate it as a holiday rental. The property was in fact completely re-designed and they did pretty much all of the work themselves, with help from family and friends in the trade. Between Andrew’s eye for detail, making sure that the finish was top level, and Clare’s passion for interiors, they have created the most beautiful, luxurious holiday home. After introducing themselves and making sure we knew where everything was and how certain state of the art features worked, they left us to enjoy our stay. They had even left us a welcome hamper of homemade brownies, Ingrid Flute - Feathered Nest Leyburnwine, beer and a local newspaper. What a lovely touch.

We unpacked and settled on to the terrace to enjoy the rest of the day in complete relaxation, drinking wine, catching up on life in general and sharing ideas on how to make H&N Yorkshire even better now that we have expanded in to East Yorkshire. In such a stunning, relaxed environment the ideas came thick and fast.  What a great start to the weekend. We had taken lots of provisions and tucked in to a dinner of homemade lasagne, garlic bread and salad around the large dining table, before laughing well in to the night with some silly party games. We didn’t turn the TV on once!

Ingrid Flute - Feathered Nest LeyburnWe all slept like babies in our luxurious super king beds, and this is probably a good time to let you know that each and every bedroom has its own large en-suite bathroom. Yes, no fighting for the toilet or shower here.

We cooked a hearty full English breakfast and decided that today we should explore some of the local attractions. It was a very different day; grey, quite heavy rain but still humid and warm and as the raid subsided to a drizzle, we set off for a visit to nearby Forbidden Corner. ‘A unique labyrinth of tunnels, chambers, follies and surprises, created in a four acre garden in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. The Forbidden Corner North YorkshireTemple of the underworld, the Eye of the Needle, a huge pyramid made of translucent glass, paths and passages that lead nowhere, a maze and extraordinary statues at every turn, there are decisions to make and tricks to avoid, a day out with a difference that will challenge and delight children of all ages.’

Well we are all kids at heart and this sounded like fun, it was! We laughed till we cried at times and with the rain continuing throughout the day, we left looking like drowned rats, but we didn’t care one bit. It had been a great day out and we headed back to Feathered Nest ready for our BBQ. Yes, we had planned a BBQ and the rain wasn’t going to stop us! Luckily the BBQ was under cover in the garden, (Clare and Andrew have thought of everything) and so we dried off and got cracking and do you know what? It tasted even better having been cooked in the rain, we were ravenous and quickly demolished the lot, settling down for a film, courtesy of the in-house film library.

Sunday arrived and we had decided to have Sunday lunch at the local Sandpiper Inn, it had great reviews on Trip Advisor and we all love a traditional Sunday roast. We were to be disappointed that they didn’t have the Sunday Lunch menu available due to the Ingrid Flute - Feathered Nest Leyburnweather being so warm. We let out a combined disappointed sigh as we had been looking forward to tucking in to roast beef, however they did have roast lamb on the menu, which we thought at the time was a second best choice, but it was absolutely delicious so we couldn’t moan too much.

After lunch, we wandered around the shops in Leyburn square, bought a few bits and headed back for a lazy afternoon at The Feathered Nest, deciding to top off our wonderful weekend in the hot tub with a few glasses of chilled wine.

All too soon it was Monday morning and time to head back to reality after what had been a great weekend away with the team. We can’t thank Clare and Andrew enough for their hospitality and allowing us to experience their beautiful property, Feathered Nest.

The attention to detail in Feathered Nest is second to none, offering guests a high level of luxury and elegance whilst retaining a relaxed homely atmosphere in what can only be described as a truly spectacular part of the country. The generous welcome pack made sure that our weekend got off to a great start too.

We didn’t want to leave and will definitely be returning. If you would like to know more about staying at Feathered Nest, visit We bet you won’t want to leave either.
