Grand Hotel Birmingham Acting Like a 5* Hotel!

Whether you are wanting an easy break away from London, a shopping excursion to the Bullring or just fancy trying out one of Birmingham’s five Michelin Star restaurants, I would definitely suggest you check out Grand Hotel Birmingham for your stay in Britain’s 2nd largest city.

Just five minutes’ walk from Birmingham New Street Station and overlooking the stunning Birmingham Cathedral, this hotel impressed me from the minute we arrived.

We arrived on their doorstep looking slightly befuddled as we were trying to find the entrance (located on the side of the building). The staff quickly leapt to help us, whisking our bags out of our hands, welcoming us with a lemon water and settling us to check in, in the beautifully scented lobby.

I felt like I was entering a Jo Malone commercial. The soft lighting instantly relaxed me and then I noticed the cool artwork. Not just here and there but everywhere! It turns out that the hotel displays over 200 works from local artists depicting the rich, diverse culture of Birmingham and it gives the entire hotel a sense of location and belonging.

Grand Hotel Birmingham is a hotel acting like a 5* hotel. This hotel has history. Originally built as a hotel in 1879, the Grade 2 listed building underwent a £45 million pound refurbishment in 2021 and is now not only restored to its former glory, but has lots of interwoven luxurious modern touches that shine without any compromise to the original glory.

It is an interesting mix of new and old. The Grand Staircase and Ballroom are nothing short of awe inspiring, I actually gasped entering the Louis XIV inspired Ballroom. The intricate coving is epic, making this a show stopping space for any event.

The gasps just kept on coming as we entered our Grand Suite. The modern four poster Queen bed gave the right level of drama and comfort and was in the perfect position to take in the view over-looking Birmingham Cathedral. It was so light and spacious that we even decided to have breakfast in our room.

The hotel has two eateries. Isaac’s the New York inspired restaurant caters for all tastes, especially mine. You could grab a hot dog or like me delve straight into the Raw Fish Counter. I had a sensational tuna tartare and lovely Seafood Platter and the steak was cooked and rested to perfection. Again the service was noticeably friendly, genuine and perfect.

Madeleine’s is their buzzy bar with a quieter area at the back for Afternoon Tea. They are currently running a Sleeping Beauty themed Afternoon Tea as the Birmingham Royal Ballet is performing this at the moment. The attention to detail was insane with each of the cakes made to describe parts of the story.

If you want to really treat your Mummy this Mother’s Day I cannot recommend this hotel and their amazing staff enough.
