“Autumn 2022 is bringing in a new collision of ‘grounding’ seasonal colours and energetic brights to our homes”, Daniel Prendergast, The Rug Seller
“As we switch up our homes this Autumn/Winter we expect to see nature’s seasonal hues and energetic brights collide, these colours are trending, as first predicted by colour experts at Pantone,” says Daniel Prendergast, design director at The Rug Seller.
“With more ‘uncertainty’ and worry in the world around us, within homes we’re seeing people continuing to crave the cocooning, uplifting and wellbeing benefits of certain colours and types of products. Colours and textures are very much about being positive and comforting in our personal spaces – and Autumn is an ideal time for this as we add warming fabrics such as wool rugs and faux furs.
“Whilst still being drawn to the tranquillity of nature and the palettes of the changing season, colour is very much on people’s shopping lists – introduced with easily interchangeable products such as rugs, bedding, cushions and throws.
“Against the backdrop of existing grey, white and beige room canvases, there are easy ways to add trending colours and styles that will update decors in an instant.
“Along with the comfort of textures, we’re looking this season to bring comfort and warmth through colours.
“Sitting with the 70’s revival, we’re seeing an influx of warming, earthy colours such as soft browns and oranges down to mustard yellows and khaki greens. Warm undertones are amplified by diffused and low lighting, to create an atmospheric space.”
This Linen Mustard rug by William Morris brings in a touch of earthy hues in a subtle way, to not overwhelm interiors to bring a touch of the trend into a home.

How to use Pantone’s Autumn / Winter 2022 Colour Palette to inspire your décor scheme
“Think neutrals with an autumnal twist for 2022-23, and a great way to pull a scheme together is to use Pantone’s trending tones including creamy Tapioca, rich Iced Coffee, warming Peach Caramel, deep Blueberry and the sturdy grey tone, Quiet Shade.
“Abstract patterns are a great way of injecting this palette into your interiors – adding texture, depth and an on-trend design. Large abstract rugs work really well throughout the home, but it’s a great design as the centre piece within the living room.
