Brunch. One of the most important meals of the day.

Well not so much, but in any event should be taken with the upmost sincerity.

Home SW15 takes brunch as seriously as we do.

In fact, they’ve become known as one of the best places to eat (not just brunch!) in Putney, so much so that the Good Food Guide named them the ‘Best Local Restaurant’ for London in 2019.

The restaurant is open morning until night, seven days a week serving up dishes from different menus. There’s dinner, lunch, happy hour and a Christmas menu, of course, but we were here for one reason only.

home sw15Word on the rumour mill is that Home SW15 makes one the best Bloody Marys in South West London and not ones to believe the hype, we had to check it out for ourselves. The Bloody Mary mix, or ‘Frida’s’ is macerated for three months, giving it that deep, rich flavour it has become well known for. It’s tangy and spicy in all of the right places.

If you’re looking for something sans alcohol or you’re not in the mood for a Bloody Mary, you could have ‘The Mary Berry’ – a home blend of mixed berries, bananas and oat milk – or something else from the fresh smoothie menu, all low in sugar and ‘rich in the good stuff’.

It takes so long for us to decide what to have we’re brought a plate of cauliflower cheese croquettes, just to whet the appetite a little more. Usually cauliflower cheese is my worst nightmare, but today it was a dream. A dream with garlic aioli on the side.

On the menu you’ll find the usual brunch dishes.- toast (both French and regular), pumpkin seed and coconut granola, shakshuka… but there are also some wild card options. Cornish crab cakes come with soft poached eggs and hollandaise sauce and are some of the finest things you’ll eat pre-midday, ever. There aren’t many crabs hanging around on Upper Richmond Road but their ingredients are fresh from the coast and you can taste it. Another curious choice is the ‘Made @ Home’ shrimp burger – served up on baby gem lettuce with siracha mayo.

home sw15Eggs Benedict – or as I like to call it the ‘brunch pinnacle’ – comes with either ham hock or smoked salmon, and you can rest assured the rest of your day will most definitely not be ruined by a non-runny yolk here (unless you ask for it, that is).

If you’re really hungry, the ‘Take it or leave it’ is a holy masterpiece of crispy bacon, eggs, sausage, black pudding, beans, slow roast tomato, potato rosti, portobello mushroom and toast. We recommend this if you plan on filling your boots with the Bloody Mary menu, or Prosecco, or Mimosas, or any alcoholic beverage you desire. This is brunch, after all.
