One of the latest additions to the Giggling Squid restaurant chain is their new branch in Kingston-upon-Thames.

The restaurant boasts the bright, airy, Asian inspired space that it’s regulars have come to love, and on a dreary Monday evening, stepping inside their new venue did not disappoint.

The décor is rustic yet notably pristine and exudes a serene setting for a relaxing dinner.

We were warmly received at Giggling Squid, by our waiter Edward who was as attentive from our arrival to the moment we left. He was very knowledgeable about all the dishes and his professionalism was stand out in comparison to other establishments in the area.

giggling squidWe started with a glass of Prosecco to whet our appetites and quickly made our way through a generous portion of spicy prawn crackers – true to their description, they’re very hard to stop eating!

The evening menu has a huge variety of choice and every dish has something to tempt your taste buds. We opted for the Salt and Pepper Squid, Crispy Pak Maew and as it was so hard to choose, we also tried the Roast Duck and Pomelo Salad. All were delicious in their own right but, the Duck and Pomelo salad was exquisite. Although it’s not something that either of us would have usually chosen, following Edward’s recommendation, it’s definitely what I will be choosing next time I visit!Salt and Pepper Squid

Although our visit was on a Monday evening, the restaurant was busy with couples, families and groups of friends but it’s layout and ambience still leave’s it feeling very spacious and tranquil.

Admitting early on that our eyes had been bigger than our bellies our main courses arrived. My fiancée had ordered the Crying Beef which arrived sizzling and looking incredible. I opted for the Hake with Dry Green Curry, together with a side of Jasmine Rice and Pak Choi. Without wanting to leave without trying my Thai Salt and Pepper Squidfavourite of Pad Thai, we also ordered a side of this for good measure. All the dishes were again delicious and the generous portion sizes were very satisfying without the hefty price tag. Although the evening menu differs slightly from the Thai Tapas style lunch option, it’s very difficult not to share and try all the dishes on the table in a Tapas style.

Edward paired our dishes with a bottle of Mont Rocher Malbec which arrived at the perfect temperature and our glasses were dutifully topped up throughout our meal – a lovely touch.

Maintaining the impeccable quality right until the end, the Giggling Squid certainly doesn’t disappoint on the dessert front either. As a child, I always used to say that dessert was a separate compartment in your stomach so no matter how full you were, there was always room for a little dessert! With that in mind, we shared a portion of the Prosecco and Muddled Berry Cheesecake. It arrived smiling at us so what not to love! A perfect ending to a fabulous dinner.

Salt and Pepper SquidIn all honesty, Thai has never been at the top of my list of favourite cuisines but after this experience at the Giggling Squid – I’m sold! Much to my fiancé’s delight!

It’s no wonder they have just been nominated as ‘Best Entrepreneurial Company’ and ‘The Best Small and Medium sized business with fewer than 50 location’ Good Luck Giggling Squid!
