Last night, Cornerstone, scooped the prestigious ‘Restaurant of the Year – London’ Award at the annual AA Awards at Grosvenor House, Mayfair.
The award, sponsored by Food & Travel Magazine, was presented to Chef Owner, Tom Brown, by TV host Kate Silverton. Earlier this year, Cornerstone was awarded three coveted rosettes by the AA.
Tom commented: “I’m thrilled to have won the ‘AA Restaurant of the Year – London’ award. I’m so proud of our team who work tirelessly to ensure we are constantly evolving and delivering a memorable experience to all our guests. Thank you to all the inspectors who visited us since opening, this award means so much to us.”
Introduced in 2000, the award recognises restaurants that provide cuisine of a truly excellent standard, as well as demonstrating innovation and ambience and providing a high standard of hospitality. Previous winners include; Sabor, Elystan Street, Corrigan’s Mayfair and Berners Tavern.
About Tom Brown
In April 2018, Nathan Outlaw protégé, Tom Brown opened his debut restaurant Cornerstone located in Hackney Wick. Named after Tom’s favourite Arctic Monkeys track, Cornerstone offers a regularly changing menu focusing on fish – ensuring only the best of British produce is used.
Tom celebrated a double win at the National Restaurant Awards in 2018, being named ‘Chef to Watch’ and seeing Cornerstone named ‘One to Watch’. Cornerstone also won ‘Best Newcomer’ at the Observer Food Monthly Awards 2018. Cornerstone was awarded ‘Best New Entry’ in the 2019 Good Food Guide and ‘Breakthrough Chef of the Year’ at the Food & Travel Reader Awards.
At the 2019 National Restaurant’s Top 100 Awards, Cornerstone was ranked #3, the year’s highest new entry. Cornerstone also won ‘Best Fish & Seafood’ at the 2019 Harden’s Restaurant Awards.
Tom has also appeared on Great British Menu representing the South West, where his dish ‘Poor Man’s Goose’ was the coveted main course at last year’s banquet celebrating 70 years of the NHS. Brown regularly appears on BBC 2’s Saturday Kitchen and Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch.
