Just minutes after stepping out onto the rooftop spa at Rudding Park, we knew exactly where every penny of it’s remarkable £9.5m transformation was spent.
After over a decade of planning, the shiny new spa was unveiled in 2017 and nationwide acclaim followed. Never mind Yorkshire, this really is one of the Britain’s very best wellness retreats.
Set in a modern country house hotel, surrounded by lush green parklands and two golf courses, no stone has been left unturned when it comes to delivering the wow-factor. The Grade 1 listed Georgian hall itself is a work of art and is brimming with tasteful contemporary furnishings, sculptures and paintings. There’s even a private cinema.
The original spa alone is better than most and features a relaxing Moorish Rasul mud treatment room, juniper scented sauna and a large indoor pool. But it’s the rooftop spa and garden that has floored even the most esteemed of critics and won Rudding Park several prestigious awards.
We made a beeline for the heated hydrotherapy infinity pool, which is a sight for sore eyes with its steamy waters and garden vista. You can quite literally while away the hours here as you chill out with a drink from the nearby bar, which serves up everything from gourmet coffee to Champagne.
Head back inside and you’re faced with the first world problem of which room to try next. The oversized indoor sauna offers plenty of space to stretch out and enjoy panoramic garden views, whilst the experience showers come with a range of different settings. Caribbean Rain, which takes you on a tropical journey complete with lighting effects and birdsong, has to be the best in my opinion.
There’s also a row of foot spas, a sunlight therapy room, a herbal bath steam room and a luxury steam room for good measure. Head through the bar and you enter onto the spacious terrace garden. Here, you’ll find a Juniper log sauna, sun deck and a huge cabana. The latter is available for private hire and boasts automatic sensors to ward off rain, infra-red heaters and an electric louvered roof to allow sunlight. In short, it’s a heavenly retreat no matter the season.
Access to the spa begins at £56pp, but a range of tempting upgrades with treatments, dining and overnight stays are available. Guests can enjoy gourmet tasting menus in the stylish Horto, which sources fresh vegetable from the hotel grounds, or head to the Clocktower Restaurant where British classics come with added finesse.
Whether you’re dropping in to unwind for a few hours or going all out on a romantic weekend, you’d be hard pressed to find faults at Rudding Park. The high-end interiors, perfectly manicured gardens and unrivalled spa guarantee top to bottom luxury from the moment you arrive. This is a destination hotel worthy of travelling for and one that’s hard to beat in the UK.
